Where do y'all get your whole packer briskets? For those of us living outside of Texas...

Today I went to Costco (my usual supplier for prime brisket at a reasonable price) who informed me that for the past 2 months they stopped selling whole briskets. For the time being all they can offer is choice flats. The guy was unsure if supply will pick back up. I called a few grocery stores, no luck, then finally found a butcher that had one choice whole brisket for $5.39/lb!

So what do you guys do? Is this ever an issue for y'all living in Texas? Smoking is a hobby I picked up after college when I moved away.

According to your profile you are in Tuscon AZ.. Have you tried the Sam's club?

They show having choice in stock on their website for the Tuscon store.. It's listed at 3.09 a lb but states prices may vary. check it out

My Sister and her son live in different parts of CA and they get theirs at Sam's.

I typically get mine at Costco unless one of the grocery stores have them on sale (but I live in Texas).

I live in Oregon, but last I checked, our Costco had some.

I've talked to a few of the bbq stands out here and most get theirs from a place called "Cash & Carry" or "Smart Foodservice." You might check to see if they have those where you are, though I think they are mainly western US. It's around $3.50/lb for choice.

Thank the primal diet crazy for the lean beef demand causing brisket to be ground with other cuts to get fat content down.

No problem here, I can even get a wagyu brisket for around $50

Ben E. Keith for me...but we rarely cook less than ten at a time.

I live in Australia and I go to a butcher shop and ask for it. They usually have to go in the back and look for it butI usually have success.

On rare occasions, I go to a "green grocer" type of chain - think Whole Foods or something like that - and they usually have a cut that is just the flat part for $20 or so. Sometimes I'll get two of those and smoke them.

Texas! Robertson County, I know the owner of the ranch. Socializing, Talking with people actually has its perks!

When I've wanted something that wasn't available usually talking to the meat department helps. Along the lines of we don't have it now, but we can get it. Doesn't sound like that's the case at costco.

How many of yall would be interested in some Wagyu beef? Tell me what you prefer, I will see what he has available for yall if interested!

Yeah, when we still lived there we did a good chunk of our meat purchasing at Cash & Carry.

I dropped Costco and went back to Sam's for this reason. Same issue here in OKC.
