Any suggestions on a dove gun that a 13 year old girl could handle?

870 pump action 20 gauge. yildez O/U 20 gauge if you think a break-open action would be more suitable.

At that age I was shooting an old fox savage 20 gauge SxS with 2 triggers. It had a short stock and 26 inch barrels and was perfect for my age/size. Would personally avoid putting her on a pump or a semi-auto, but that's just my 2 cents.

I just got my 13 year old son a Stoeger Condor youth 20 gauge O/U. It is a perfect size for him, he is really small for his age.

Franchi or Weatherby compact. Both good guns for the price. I like the semiauto due to the reduced recoil. If you are worried about safety, just start them with one or two rounds in the gun. If you want to go old school, find a Remington 1100 LT-20 with a 26" IC barrel.

20 gauge with 24" or 26" barrel.

Numerous manufacturers, but I would stay in the inexpensive range for this buy as the firearm will take some abuse.

Benelli 28ga. Lightest semi-auto on the market and as soft as it gets. 28ga arguably patterns better than a 20 as well so whatever you lose in pellets you make up for in ballistics

CZ makes a youth O/U in 20 that I've been looking at for same reason.

Really glad to see that no-one recommended a 410! In the old days that is what everyone got, took forever to learn to hit with such a tiny load. That is the most overrated shotgun for young shooters, just to darn hard to hit with. The 20 is an excellent choice!

Warning on the Yildiz if you consider semi-auto. We purchased the Academy-specific Yildiz A71 for my kiddo to hunt dove and have fun out at the range. It has refused to cycle shells properly despite several attempts by the manufacturer to help out. The release button is stiff as heck and requires real force to operate. I unfortunately noticed this is a pretty consistent problem after perusing the internet sites.

I know you get what you pay for when shopping at that price point but it has been a frustrating purchase irregardless.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. I started with a single shot .410 when I was around 12. I can't remember for sure, but I think I went through 2 or 3 boxes of shells. Killed one dove. Moved to a 12 gauge pump when I was around 14 or 15. Still wasn't a crack shot, but I would kill about 1 out of 3. All from just switching guns. I quickly got to where I was killing about 1 out of every 2. Probably would have been better off with a 20 gauge to start with and would have lasted me longer.

Definitely a semi auto 20 ga. or a women's specific 12 ga. if it fits the budget. I shot an 870 wingmaster 20 ga from 8-12 or so when I upgraded (hand me down) to 12 ga. So a teenage girl can definitely handle a pump action, but for comfort and to make it more enjoyable a semi is the way to go.

I think I'll go with an auto--there are some great suggestions here. Appreciate everyone's input. Exactly why I frequent the OB!

I just picked one up for my 8yo, it won't cycle anything and the trigger was 8lbs so buyer beware, I should have just paid 3x the amount and got the damn a400 would have been a better long term investment.

It is however a very light shooting single shot and my son loves shooting it.

After a few years I ordered the adult butt stock from the company in Kansas City and installed it. She uses it on dove hunts and has got quite proficient with it on ducks.

No complaints so far.

Escort youth 20 gauge. Taught my son and daughter on it. Wife still shoots it.

OP- if you decide you want one of these, let me know. I've got one in max camo that is in great condition that i'd be willing to sell. Only has about 100 shells through it. Nephew decided to move up to a 12 gauge after 1 season.

Couple folks on our dove shoot had Tristar viper 20s and 28s. Very nice for the price. The 26" 28ga weighs 5lbs exactly.

I bought a CZ-Huglu Upland SxS today in 20ga for $500. That's what's I'd recommend but I already bought it.

Just got my 11yr old son a 20g A400 lite.

It barley kicks. He could handle it with ease

She won't hit crap with a 26" OU. Let her shoot yours. Get her the cheapest beretta 20 gauge auto you can find. It will be easy on her shoulder and maybe she will enjoy shooting it.
