I've built some Adirondack chairs that I like and would like to build a child size version.

Anyone have any thoughts on how to scale the dimensions from the adult size chairs to kid size? Divide everything in half? Use 65%?

I know it's a slim chance anyone has scaled down dimensions for this, but I'm not sure how to get started.

They sell a plastic version for kids. Maybe go measure one.

Thought about that, too. But i really would like them to look exactly like my others, only smaller.

Maybe measure the little plastic and the big plastic and get the ratio? Good luck. Cool idea. Post some pics.

Go measure the plastic kid ones and scale yours to match?

I'll give that a shot to get an idea.

You need to charge him an engineering consultant fee for that one!

This is a good idea on paper, but in reality the kids will outgrow the chairs faster than you think

It's a one hour project that will be made completely of scrap material. i think it'll be worth it for the few yrs of use. I bet there'll be other families with children who'll take em off my hands when they put grow them too.

I have build a number of these. Do a google search for a kid size pattern. They are inexpensive pdf's. Find one you like and use it. It is easy to modify the pattern to suit your needs.

You can use these plans for basic dimensioning to scale off your existing ones. Pictures at the bottom of people who built then to see relative scale.

I also enjoy building chairs and have built several. My mom just bought my son this kids chair so I took some measurements:

Child
Length of arm- 23
Height to top of back - 24
Height to arm rest - 14.5
Width seat - 12

Adult
Length of arm- 28
Height to top of back - 35
Height to arm rest - 23
Width seat - 22

I think 65% would be fine. The kid chair isn't a percent scale based off the adult chair.

Going to attempt to post pics:

You seem like you have an adult design in mind to scale, but if you need I can take complete measurements of this chair.

I suppose it would be a good size for a 3yo-10yo depending on their size

Thanks for the pics.

I ended up measuring one of the plastic kid chairs and made a few adjustments size wise (I'd like it a little bigger), and have set up on 60% of the one I currently have.

I appreciate the advise.
