In a VFD raffle I was extremely fortunate to win a Ruger Precision Rifle in 6MM Creedmoor. Awesome looking gun, but now that I have it, what should I do with it? I'm not that knowledgeable about ballistics, much less 6MM CM.

Those that have one, what do you do with it? What is it comparable to?

TIA

Shoot a pig with it. That's all I got.

Very similar to a .243

Walk around telling everyone you have a Creedmoor - it seems to be all the rage.

243 short, allowing the use of high BC bullets in a 2.8" mag box.

I won the same rifle in a raffle about a year ago. It's been sitting in my closet because I can't decide if I want to sell it or spend some money on glass and keep it.

Only shoot it if you want to keep it. Once you see the groups it can shoot, you'll be ruined. My RPR is crazy good.

Thats what I hear. What scope do you have and can you recommend mounts? I've only been a pistol and shotgun shooter outside of the military. Were you able to mount the scope yourself or did you take it in? TIA

Easy to mount any scope with the pic rail that comes on the rifle.

Currently using a SWFA SS 10x with mil quad reticle. And SWFA rings.

My research tells me that it's a worthless cartridge.

I'm a good guy, though. I take it off your hands for tree fiddy.

Having one built as I'm writing this post. Very accurate, not as fast as a .243; but you're loading 105 - 110 gr bullets. I've shot my friend's out to 800 yds regularly. It's a fun cartridge that I'm not hesitant to hunt with.

I spoke with NW80 about a similar round a few months ago. I had a 6X47L built because I love the 6.5X47. I finally got to shoot it two weeks ago and it's a sweet little round. You will love the 6 Creed. As others have mentioned, it's basically a .243 that allows you to shoot high BC bullets at mag length. I plan to hunt with mine this year. It has very little recoil and plenty of pop. I am going to try and get mine out to 1K this weekend if the mirage isn't too bad. Keep us posted on what you think.

I have a Ruger Predator 6.5CM, wearing Magpul Hunter stock and upgrade bolt handle and cover. I've yet to shoot it after a year. Still trying to figure out what I want if for and what kind of optic to put on it. Right now I'm thinking it will be a suppressed deer/hog rifle with a digital day/night scope (Sightmark Wraith).

I'm also contemplating building a 6.5 Grendel using Wilson Combat barrel and BCG. I'd likely use for same purpose and same scope.

Obviously I should just do both, but am I missing out on the purpose of either cartridge. Is one superior to the other?

The only reason to use 6.5 Grendel over something like 6mm (or 6.5) Creedmoor is if you're shooting it in an AR-15.

The 6.5Gren would be an AR and I realize the value in that, but I'm trying to figure out if you only had to pick one is the CM better than the Gren or vice versa. Are they roughly interchangeable as far as ability to kill hogs and whitetail out to 300yds. Does one suppress better in either a bolt or semi? I'm not a reloader so I'm going to be limited to factory ammo. Which has the most range for bullet weights, etc.

I have a LaRue Grendel and it's a great rifle for deer and pigs. There is plenty of quality factory ammo as well. You obviously don't have the case capacity of the Creedmoor, so you won't be able to match the velocities you can get with it. Also, gas guns are typically a little less accurate than a bolt gun. If you can keep both, I would do it. One will be a little handier for hunting and the other should give you a nice long range rig should you choose to have fun with some steel.

To sorta hijack but stay within bounds, has anyone had personal experience with 6mmAR?

As a rule, I tend to stay away from wildcats but the ballistics and extremely wide range of projectile choices has me looking hard at the .243 projo and all its variants. Of which the 6mmAR T40 has my interest picqued. The other main cartridge I've been comparing it to is the 6mm Creed of course.

Juts looking for that personal unicorn of "one round to do whatever I want". Mainly punching paper and small to medium game if and when I finally get around to a really hunting.

I read this post too quickly the first time, and it turns out that one little apostrophe in "friend's" makes a HUGE difference in this sentence...

Do it. I put together a 6.5 grendel and before i was done was already regretting not building a fat rat instead. Speed kills

I don't have any experience with the 6AR, but generally the 6mm's are too hot to do their thing in gas guns.

To take advantage of what they offer the loads where they are really carrying the mail are just to much for semi auto actions to deal with from a pressure and brass standpoint. The 6.5CM can give you problems if you arent careful but you can get it to full speed and have everything hold together.

Maybe the 6AR is different...don't know.

You'll have more loads available in a Creed. If going bolt, that's what I'd do though cz's mtr is pretty freaking sweet. On a gas gun, if you only get to pick one, I'd do Grendel. Ar10s are just big. We make more on a Creed build and I still walk people away from them to go with grendels a lot of they are pretty hunting guns. I have three 6.5 gas guns.... One Creed (that it's probably about to get an overhaul) and try grendels... My hunting rifle and the red pistol that's equally badass as it is stupid, which makes me love it even more. I hardly ever use the Creed except at the range. It's just too bulky. In regards to suppression, they are both about the same though, on a gas gun... That's a huge gun when you toss a suppressor on a creeemoor ar10. Also, creeemoor ar10s are more finicky than 308s, so throwing a suppressor on and hacking around with the gas can either help or hurt them.

I have this same rifle and I love it. I topped it with a Sig Sauer BDX scope. I've shot many coyotes, bobcats, pigs and an axis. It's accurate with factory ammo but I recently got into reloading and am consistently getting 1/4"(at worst) groups at 100. Mine likes 87gr vmax, 105 Blacks and 108 ELDs from hornady when talking factory ammo. I mainly predator hunt so I've loaded 70gr Noslers and they shoot awesome! It's on the heavy side for sure but if that doesn't bother you too much you'll love this gun.
