I agree, but damn. Their half off price is now double what it was the last time I bought some.

Bought one of these several months ago. Big disappointment. And I wasn't really asking a lot of it, just wanted something to take some beer for a day at the lake or the beach. But it does not hold ice well at all (two bags of ice in the morning will be cool water by the evening) and it leaks.

Please with other RTIC products, but I regret this one.

You don't put ice in these. You use the frozen packs or freeze your own bottles.

The product description on the website says nothing about that. The specs say it holds 30 lbs of ice. Why would they list the amount of ice it holds if it wasn't designed to hold ice?

Have you contacted them about it? I have a 30 that's a few yrs old and no such issues. I'd think they replace it under warranty.

Maybe you got a lemon. Mine has no problem holding ice for an entire weekend of summer fun, and I've never had any issues with it leaking. Admittedly, my Yeti hopper holds ice marginally better, but I hate losing a layer of arm skin to the zipper teeth every time I need a beer.

No I haven't. Based on you and Bird93's feedback, I might contact them.

I wouldn't buy another.

I bought one ~3 years ago. It's been used maybe 8 times and stored inside the entire time. The bottom delaminated on it 2 weeks ago. RTIC said too bad you're out of warranty.

A cooler that cost nearly $150 shouldn't delaminate after 8 uses

What I was quickly trying to say about the frozen packs is this. Can you put bulk ice in the soft coolersl? Of course. It just isn't the best option and here is why.

If you read the manual they say that the coolers must be cooled down prior to adding ice for them to hold temp. With sift sided I've found that to be even more true. If you put bulk ice in without cooling it, it will start to melt and now you have water in something not hard sided.

The best way to cool these down is the frozen packs (purchase the flat ones or just fill and freeze old juice / milk / soda containers). So why switch them out for bulk ice unless you need loose ice for in cups? Not only that, but bulk ice takes up a lot more space than the flat frozen packs and you're already using a small cooler.

So you're saying these normally have a 2x mark up?

In my experiences using just the freeze packs, they don't get drinks cold if they are weren't already cold. But I have cheap freeze packs. Not sure if the RTIC Ice or Yeti Ice makes a big difference.

What I have found that works the best for me, is to use the frozen packs to pre-chill the cooler, place drinks in on top of frozen packs, and then add some loose ice on top. Or pre-chill with the frozen packs, take them out, put in drinks, and add loose ice on top.

But pre-chilling the cooler is a must. Soft side or hard side.
