Never fished down there much. Are there any lighted piers to fish from? Any best places to wade fish? Thanks!

There's a pay pier at Pirates Landing in Port Isabel, and as for wading in, behind the convention center is your best bet.

I fished the surf down there on Friday. Slow but consistent whiting bite on both sides of the second bar. Fish bites and shrimp. The majority of the whiting were 12+" eating size. Zero hardheads which was a pleasant surprise.

There's also a pier on the island at Pier 19 that used to allow fishing for cheap $$

You can wade in just N of there. South of the causeway. Also can park at the foot of tge causeway on the island side, and wade in on top of that shell bed. Goal is to get out to the edge where it drops off.

Lastly Dolphin cove around the Coast Guard station. Same thing. I see them wading out to get close to the edge. Theres flounder on the dropoff there but its 150-200' from shore and chest deep in high tide

Further North by the convention center and then N for as far as you care to travel offers the best opportunity (IMO) to wade-catch a nice size red or trout. I think those guys try to cast into potholes and along the edges of grass/sand. Miles of knee to 3' deep water and early mornings can be productive

Watch out for shore burners if you get very far out. Especially on a windy day

Shore burners?
I am not the Six Million Dollar Man, but I might need that surgery. "We have the technology, we can rebuild him!"

Sorry

Bay boats running home at full throttle close to the shore.
Water is very shallow and smoother

In windy days, the bay can get pretty rough as you get further from land and in deeper water
To make ride back more comfortable and dryer, guys will run close to shore and sometimes very close to waders.

Shore burners

We call 'em Flats Burners here in Rockport, but same thing. Rude, obnoxious and as you said will flat run over you, they have NO, ZERO, ZIP, NADA fishing etiquette!
