Looking to take the kids soon and looking for tips. This will basically be bank/pier fishing. Lures, bobbers, etc.

Fished there in college. There is some grass but had good bass. Be cautious of alligators. Had one chasing after a bass I was reeling in when it got close to the dock. Might bring a spot light and shine across the lake at night and watch their eyes light up. Would be fun for the kids to see.

Lots of sunfish in there. Some big red ears and bluegills.

Elkins Lake Baptist church has a pond that is loaded with bass.

It's been a while since I've been there, but I've caught some good bass in the stretch of grass south of the boat ramp to the end of that point. Weightless senkos, Texas rigged lizards / creature baits, and swim jigs during the day and clear tiny torpedos at dawn / dusk have been my best lures there.
