Muzzle brake and accuracy

Mounted the Bergara self timing brake to my 6.5 CM Ridge and noticed something surpirsing. My groups got better. I'm not sure what I expected, but it wasn't this. I shot six 3 shot groups at 100 yards and all of them were under .75". I also had my first single hole group ever. Same ammo, same indoor range, only variable was the brake.

I'm wondering if the reduction in recoil allowed me to be more steady post trigger pull or just allowed the rifle to recoil in a straighter path. Either way, it was a pleasant surprise.

Nice! Yeah, you hear about the opposite happening pretty often.

My experience has been the anticipation of recoil as being a huge factor. Less recoil+less flinching=tighter groups.

Haha, possible for sure. Just seemed odd as I typically shoot 1-1.5" groups with my 6.5CM and my 30-06. Recoil/flinch didn't seem to be a factor before, but I'm fairly new to rifles so that seems more likely than not.

Kevlar vs cotton. I won't ever be as tough as my grandpa.

Same principle as the BOSS system, just by happy accident.

Harmonics, yep. Less free recoil so you are a little cleaner on the trigger, yep.

Also the brake limits the amount of gas pushing past the bullet and disrupting its flight. The burning powder and expanding gases behind the bullet are going faster than the bullet. So when it leaves the muzzle all that gas pushes past it and around it. The brake channels a lot of that away to the sides preventing it from disturbing the bullets flight path.

This.

Actual recoil has no bearing as the projectile has left the barrel before the effects of recoil ever come close to moving the rifle or shooter. Harmonics and pre-shot flinching.
