Does anyone have experience with this and a remedy? Exterminator said he cant really treat away from the home and that a tree doctor would be more appropriate for the matter. I had found the termites while cutting some root knots protruding from the ground.

Well, look on the bright side - while they are eating your tree, they're not eating your house.

Bad thing is they're probably already under the house then. It might be time for some preventative treatement around the house

The exterminator has found no signs of termites in or directly around the home as there are some obvious signs to look out for. Supposedly, subterranean termites are not uncommon either. I feel like he could be the most honest or worst exterminator there is since it could be a nice pay day for him.

I bought some termite stakes from Lowe's. Thanks for the replies.

A termite's job is to eat decaying or rotting wood. There are a lot of dead roots in the ground under a tree...these termites most likely have no awareness of your home. Termites are found in every lot and this is not unusual. As an entomologist, I'm just passing along some facts.

There are pretty strict application regs for these. The label is the law and all that. Just get Sentricon installed around your home and you'll be fine. As a Former termite specialist for a pest control company in Lubbock, we had estimated 2-3 colonies within 100 yards of every house in the county.
