In the market for a good squeeze chute. Currently have my eyes on the Priefert SO4. Anyone have any experience with that model or can recommend another? Don't want to spend more than $4k.

Priefert. We are on our second one. The first one lasted over 20+ years. Still have it as a backup. We bought a new one about 2 years ago. Don't remember the model # but we spent around $4-5K.
Great chute and easy to move from place to place.

Edit: Just looked at the website. We have the SO4.

One of the best prices I was able to find. Let me know if you see anything better. Been watching for a deal.

That's the best price I have seen. I've been told that D&D out of Seguin will be at that price next month when they have the big Rodeo Sale.

The SO4 is a good unit. As far as price, maybe check McCoys or Teskeys.

Ft Worth, I assume you've watched the video on the SO4. Does a LOT of stuff.

Q-Catch 86, it's a heck of a unit for working cattle by yourself or with limited help. I don't own one but am in the market for one.

Yes I've watched a couple of videos on the SO4 and have read many reviews. That's why it's at the top of my list right now. I'll check McCoys.

I got the S04 a few months ago at Champion Ranch Construction in Hempstead, where Lawrence Marshall use to be. Paid $4300 I believe. I really like it. " Ray, there goes that Clobber Line!"

Priefert. We are on our second one in Medina County also because some a**hole stole our first one.

Also, put one in on our place in Milam County last year.

Good dependable unit.

Had a few Priefert products nothing but junk, you cannot give me one. If you want the best squeeze chutes go to Go Bob Pipe and you will find them within your price range with features you never thought of. All are reasonable priced and heavy duty will be the last one you buy. Here is link

Powder River M1500 has worked well for us. Pretty basic but is well built.

Priefert SO4 is a heck of a chute. It has worked very well for us on multiple ranches. You can buy heavier ones and more complicated designs, but for price point and functionality this is the best. Stick some load cells under it and you're really set. Priefert has a scratch and dent yard at their plant in Mt. Pleasant and good prices. They supply the equipment to NFR and PBR then bring it back and sell as used, many times after a single event. You might get 10 pounds of dried on bull crap for free along with some scratches but the price is right. Call to see what they have on hand, it is always changing.

Thanks rancher. That sounds like a great idea. I will give them a call.

Can I ask what load cell you are using? It would be nice to weigh while they are in the chute.

The guys at their #2 (used yard) in Mt Pleasant are awesome guys, easy to work with and very accommodating. They've done right by us for years. Give them a call and they'll help if they can.

The Priefert family are great folks.

I looked at the Q-Catch 86 at Beef Cattle Shortcourse. I thought it looked like the best chute on the market and is probably what I'll buy when I re-build my pens next year.

I've used Priefert for nearly 20 years. Well built and will last. My SO4 is a great unit and will do just about eveything you need. There are some that have a few more bells and whistles, but I bet the SO4 will be and do all that you need it to do!

Mt. Pleasant option is a great one to check into. Also, if you're not in that big of a hurry, watch Craigslist.
There are some that occasionally pop up from buyers at auctions or estate sales.

Sorry for answer delay Ft. Worth Ag, I had not checked back here for a few days. I use a Triner Scale, model AWB40-5k. This has two 40" load bars which fit under the Priefert SO4 chute perfectly. It comes with the TS-700 WB Digital Indicator which can interface with other electronic devices for record keeping. This set-up weighs up to 5000lbs., has a quick zero between animals and a freeze weight for shifting cattle. The latter works pretty good but is not to the pound accurate like a still weight. www.trinerscale.com They sell direct through a factory store. Mount the chute and scale on a 4" concrete slab with rebar and make sure of the rebar placement so you don't interfere with drilling holes to mount the load bars. (Voice of experience here) Hope this helps.

Digging this thread up, and I know I will need to get more information. We have an older Priefert (getting model number) and the manual rear gate is having issues opening and closing, is this a common problem with a known fix? Or a part(s) suggestion, or otherwise a repair place. This is in the Waco area.

If you send the unit back to Priefert they will totally recondition it like new. Not sure how much they charge but it isn't a whole lot.
That is if you want to do something like that.

Guy had a powder river for $3000 in WACO craigslist
Chute is in Frost, Tx and was listed under title of "farm sale". About 5 years old.

I took a used chute back to Priefert in Mt Pleasant and they basically made it new for $1000. They will also pick up and bring back from vendors that sell new ones.

I have nothing to add to this thread as it's so far out of my wheelhouse. But i will say two things.....

You real country / rural guys deal with some interesting and random **** that most of us never will.

That was not what came to mind when I read squeeze chute.

I talked to priefert. Guy is gonna be in waco anyway and is stopping by. He said without seeing it, guesses about $500 for repair and paint. The dealer drop off/pickup is a great idea, I'm looking into it

Bpriefert, Ivan is the guy coming out next week. Had a very good conversation with him yesterday. Your repair program seems to be great. I am waiting to hear back from him for contact info for Yard #2. A question I had, can we use a local dealer/distributor (Waco) to get our chute to you and returned (on one of your trucks) for repair work? Is there a cost associated with this if its an option?

We have an older one that could use a trip through the reconditioning program, but the transport to Mt Pleasant is a deal breaker. If we could drop that off closer to Stephenville, that would be awesome.

Bumping this back up. I have talked to Priefert and they no longer facilitate the inbound delivery of the chute, only the outbound. I called Priefert to ask them about who does their shipping to see if I could use the same to move ours to their facility but its all done on semi-truck. Does anyone have any ideas/recommendations for someone to deliver our chute from Central Texas (Waco area) to Mt Pleasant, cost effective?

It's not that far of a drive, get it on a trailer and take it to Mt. Pleasant.
