Took a buddy from DFW our fishing today. We went down the the Quality Waters below Navajo (NM), and did a little drift. Water was VERY low and slow, but we had the river to ourselves (relatively). A rare treat for those waters.
It was a moderate-to-slow day. But we managed to boat about 20 fish, while losing quite a few as well. Most were in that 17-19" range, very few small fish. Didn't manage to get any big ones to the net. My buddy hooked a couple a20's, but they all came unbuttoned one way or another. Those fish have PhD's in making fishermen look silly. I had a brown on that would likely have gone 22+, after a lengthy battle, I had him right at the boat he ducked under the boat and broke off. Possibly rubbed on the bottom.
These fish are gorgeous. Check out the nice cutbow I snagged today (pic 2), such cool colors. Don't get to many of those in this river. Also got into some nice browns (pic 4). They always put up such a great fight- really know how to use that big dorsal in the current.
