The other UTV thread got me thinking not just about ride and quietness, but mostly about longevity.

What do you have and how many hours are on it? Any issues?

Good thread....

I'd also be curious what kind of maintenance makes a difference.

My favorite brand is Kawasaki. The only problem I have had with them is I had to replace the drive belt after about 6000 miles on one, but I am also very rough on them.

Honda Pioneer has a mechanical transmission that I never had a problem with, and the engine was bulletproof, but the suspension was extremely rough and the ride was uncomfortable.

I had an onboard computer problem on my CanAm Commander after about 9000 miles that required a month in the shop.

I blew the engine on my Yamaha Rhino after about 12000 miles, but that was my fault.

My Polaris was in the shop for major repairs 6 times in 2 years. The second time the engine blew, the dealership bought it back from me to use around their equipment yard to get out of the 5 year extended warranty I had bought.

I put about 5000 to 6000 miles per year on a side by side in rough country. The only brand I have bought twice is Kawasaki. The only brand I will not buy again is Polaris.

Current llineup:

2017 900XP Ranger 500hrs - preferred rig currently. Smooth ride, lots of power.
2018 1000 Crew 10hrs - recently won in a raffle
2005 570 Crew Ranger 3500hrs - old unit I gave to my stepdad to ride around his place. beat to hell, but still runs
2013 Mule Pro 1000hrs- trade with a local guy for equipment I had for sale. Still runs good and fun to drive, but rarely used. Needs wiring work and brakes.

I havent had any major repairs on any of my rigs. I tend to take very good care of my toys and rarely loan them out or abuse them. Just treat them right and change fluids, follow maintenance plan as close as you can and they should last a long time.

If I could chose one, it would be a Mule Pro FXT.

With that said, I have a John Deere XUV 550 that I've never had any problems with. I got it in trade for a busted Jeep that I just wanted to part with and forget about.

Forgot to look today but dad has a kubota RTX-something that's been running around the farm for 4-5 years. Not sure the hours on it but I'd guess somewhere between 500-1000 hours on it. Had a factory recall that required nothing out of his pocket, but he did decide to get it tuned up around that time anyways since it was a few years old. Basically no problems with it other flat tires from mesquite thorns.

Now we do still have a Honda 3 wheeler from the late 80s or early 90s that might have had several thousand hours on it. Damn thing wouldn't stop running until we finally didn't start it for a couple years back around 2010 and I think the engine is seized. Bet we could get it running again if we really wanted to, but it'll probably just keep sitting in the shed.

Anything not Polaris! Their older stuff is rock solid but anything mid to late 2000s will just have stuff here and there quit working.
