Table Saw Upgrade

In the market to upgrade my table saw game. I'm currently using an older Rigid portable 10" saw but want something more substantial.

I've been looking at the Grizzly saws, specifically the G1023RLWX or the G0833P. The price between the two isn't all the great and I like the incorporated router table function and beefiness of the 1023.

What do you guys run and is there some other brand I should look into as well?

SawStop and the like are a little more than I'd care to spend, whereas Grizzly seems a bit more budget friendly. I'd love to be able to pump out some finished products at 1/10 of the level of agrams, but I need a better saw than the Rigid to do it.

TIA!

Jet or Powermatic

The Jets and Powermatics are nice, but it seems like I'd have to spend double on either one to get comparable specs to the Grizzly.

I have a Delta Unisaw. No complaints. Good quality saw.

Can't really go wrong with most Jet/Powermatic/Grizzly stuff. I've owned a Jet cabinet saw before as well as multiple pieces of Grizzly equipment. Just pick a budget and feature set and invest accordingly.

You'll be just fine with Grizzly saws. Just make sure you have or plan to have the appropriate power for that 1023 saw (220v only).

What do you plan to do that a larger table saw will be critical to? I only ask because there are a lot of things that may be suited to having a quality track saw to compliment your current table saw for the time being or you could get a cheaper table saw and track saw.

Track saws are fantastic for sheet goods and large miter cuts, squaring up rough or s2s lumber, etc. Table saw does narrow rips a lot better or if you need to repeat a lot of cuts.

I've got a 220 connection in the garage now, so I'm good to go on that end.

I do a lot of picture frames for my wife's business and I've been getting by with my small saw for now, but I'm not getting the consistent quality with my jigs due to limitations with the saw. Which creates clean up work that is tedious and annoying.

I'd also like to get into some better quality woodworking with better material (not just plywood and mdf) and if I'm going to spend the money on material for nicer projects I want something better than a $399 home depot special. It's been a decent saw for what it is, but I'm getting to the point where my free time is a diminishing resource (kids starting to get older) and I'd rather not waste it correcting deficiencies caused by subpar tools.

I've been looking to upgrade my Craftsman tablesaw for a while an was looking at Sawstop, Jet, Grizzly and all of those but just couldn't get myself to pull the trigger on a $1500+ tablesaw. So I ended up getting the Delta 36-725 from Lowes for $600 and I'm extremely happy with it. The only thing is that the blade insert needs to be replaced because it's not very good but that's my only complaint so far. The only negative reviews I read about it were that the assembly instructions were terrible and it was a pain to put together. It took a couple of hours but really wasn't as bad as I expected.

I see used Unisaws on my local craigslist pretty regularly for $600-800 with fences. I'd go that route if you can...

I have a SawStop Professional table saw. I was required to get for the safety device built in per the wife. I really like the saw. Works great, and have the integrated mobile base so moving it around is a breeze. It does no have inserts for a in table router table. I am saving to upgrade to that functionality. New models come with the correct extension rails. But you will pay extra for the name. I think it is worth the added safety benefit.

I have the grizzly 690 with a router extension and have been very pleased with it. However, I put my biesemeyer fence on it.

Really nice table saw! Unfortunately I'm not looking to spend $3k on a table saw. I wouldn't know what the heck to do with all that rip space.

I'd say realistically, my budget is around $1500 +/- a couple hundred dollars or so.

While it was a brag, I was still being serious.

I was in the same boat before I bought it, was a day short of pulling the trigger on the grizzly.

Then my wife actually encouraged me to spend the extra dough for the safety aspect of the sawstop.

If you really have to stick to your budget, the sawstop contractors saw fits the bill.

My theory is this, though. If you are doing enough woodworking to justify spending over 1k on a tablesaw, you might as well pull the trigger and buy the best, last tablesaw you will ever need.

If you are not in a huge hurry for it and dont mind used, watch publicsurplus.com. I picked up a Unisaw with an upgraded fence for $200 last year. Came out of a technical highschool.

Appreciate the research, Fire.

If you don't mind, why'd you end up going with the Grizzly?

In general, I see that those other saws are more expensive, however I'm not seeing much support or justification as to what benefits you get with the added cost. Not that I'm married to the Grizzly saw, but I have a hard time doubling my budget for not a whole lot more gain.

What specifically makes Jet, Sawstop and Powermatics that much superior? I guess that's kind of a Chevy vs. Ford vs. GMC vs. Toyota type question for trucks.

Personal opinion, preference whatever helps someone justify their purchase to themselves.

I have grizzly, delta, jet, rikon, and supermax tools. Most large table saws are made overseas and usually in the same factory with different paint schemes with the exception of Sawstop. Festool now owns Sawstop and while festool tools are nice they are very expensive so the Sawstop will probably go up. So if that's the route you go, I would do it before it goes up any more.

I am satisfied with my grizzly table saw, it has served me well. I have Jet planer and jointer and really the only reason is I needed them and grizzly was on backorder for so long.

Now as far as Sawstop, I know a lot of folks that have them and love them. I've used one and it is very nice and accurate. However the only negative with the sawstop that I know of is the top surface rusts easy and it requires a little more care. To me that's no big deal.

It all comes down to preference, go look at other folks saws and go with what your comfortable with.

As far a Jet and Powermatic is concerned, Jet owns Powermatic so consider Powermatic the luxury version of Jet.

I have a Ridgid hybrid table saw that I really like. Had it for about 5 years but haven't used it much in the last couple. Cuts straight. Solid table. Bought it for a side business and then life threw me a curve.

I'll echo the point about sawstop tops requiring a good bit of care.

This georgia humidity will have it showing rust in no time.

Once every 2 or 3 weeks I hit the top with rust remover to remove the old coat as well as any rust that might have built, then i hit it with a coat of t9, then 2 coats of glidecote. It keeps it pretty clean, and slick as ice.

As far as comparing it to other cabinet saws, I have no experience with them.

I went from a ryobi jobsite saw to the 3hp sawstop.
