Saw an ad for a bow sight that had a built in rangefinder that automatically adjusts a holographic pin for the distance you are trying to shoot. Have any of y'all used this product or gotten your hands on it, seems to be a real cool idea.

Are you referring to the Garmin one?

They're pretty damn cool but no way in hell would I drop a grand on a sight for my bow that I use for stand hunting. If I was bowhunting out West every year, still probably no, but maybe...

If the price drops to $3-400 I would probably get one on my next bow.

Way too expensive! + Since it is the first generation of the technology, who knows if it works well...but its still pretty damn cool.

Yes! I didn't realize the price was that high but I agree this technology seems to be the future.

Another company (IQ Bowsights IIRC) came out with a multi pin system that has a built in rangefinder with a display, so even if the electronics on the sight crap out you are still in the game.

John Dudley brought up on one of his podcasts that if you are torquing the bow when ranging with one of these that you are probably not ranging what your pin (dot) is on.

Caution with these type of sights- if it casts a light/laser of any kind, or has batteries/electronics, it is illegal in certain places. Doesn't matter if that is only for ranging and not aiming- if it is attached to the bow, it is illegal. I remember looking at the Leupold Vendetta when it first came out, and being amazed at how many places won't allow it. If I remember correctly- Can't use it anywhere out west, except AZ. Can't use in TX.

Good point! I had to toss my batteries out of my sight last year in CO because it has the small light that illuminates the fiber optics... no idea it was illegal until I got out there.

I was told by an outfitter here in CO that it is illegal to even have a light on the bow, even if the batteries are removed. Said he had a hunter ticketed for it (they guy gave the warden attitude, so got rung up on everything possible). No first hand knowledge, but I trust the guy who told me. Basically how does the warden know you didn't just dump the batteries when you saw him coming... Probably up to their discretion to enforce.

In any case, I swapped my old lighted sight for a much nicer one w/out a light. Couldn't be happier, as I never once shot an animal where the light made any difference. Don't even think it worked any more, honestly. But it Would be my luck that the first bull I arrow in CO would get confiscated and I would go home with a fat fine, for having a light with no batteries...

Also, check Pope & Young qualification, I'm not sure you can enter a deer in the book if you have a laser/rangefinder on your bow. At least that's how it was many many moons ago when I looked up the Vendetta
