Wanting a black pair for a wedding, but have never worn Lucchese boots. Anyone?

I could never fit it them, they always seemed to run too narrow for me. Once you get in to their high end lines you might as well go custom, and the lower end lines don't seem any better than other made in Mexico brands.

Once you go custom you just can't go back. While expensive, quality custom boots will last a lifetime and you get boots made exactly how you want them.

I had mine made in Houston by Parker Custom Boots

No one will know they're not Lucchese . . . unless you tell them!

Yeah I didn't think about that part. If it's just for a wedding just get some Justin ropers or something like that

Decent boots. But overpriced. I have a pair of the 1883 that were marked WAY down years back. I do like them, but I'd never pay asking price for them.

I like mine. But I'm sure custom is better, though I have not tried that route and on the other end of the spectrum if you're not going to wear them regularly may not be worth it to you.

Agree with this. Lucchese, while a very nice product, is pricey. My feet are really wide, so nothing off-the-shelf ever worked for me. Went custom a few years ago, and never looked back.

Lucchese summed up in one sentence. Not what they once were.

I consider my custom boots to be one of my bigger wastes of money because there is so little difference in fit and comfort with my Lucchese Classics.

Most of these people are from Michigan, they wouldn't know what a Lucchese is.

Good point though, maybe I should just spring for another pair of black Ariats.

I love my Lucchese's, but for a one time use, maybe consider Tecovas.

I bought a black pair of Luccheses about 10 years ago, thinking I'd wear them a couple of times a year. 10 years and a couple of soles and a few heals later, and I am wearing them nearly every other day to the office or church (have a brown pair I wear the rest of the time). They are just so comfortable for me and I have grown to despise wearing dress shoes/dress socks.

Lucchese's, in my opinion, are the best off the shelf boots you can get.

My dad has two pair that are over 30 yrs old and still in great condition. I have two pair myself that are over 10 yrs old and are in great condition.

They fit great, are comfortable, and look great. You can tell a difference when wearing them.

My goal is to one day own a pair of custom boots, but until then, I don't think Lucchese's can be beaten.

Wife got me a pair for Christmas and I've been happy with my Tecovas.

I have a pair of dark brown ostrich Luccheses that are my go-to dress shoes for weddings, funerals, football games, parties, dancing, and church twice a year. The brand name doesn't matter to me, I just really liked these boots so I bought 'em.

Lucchese Classics are nice, but way overpriced for something off the shelf. The jump to customs is worth the extra $$, imo. I, too, would recommend Parker Custom Boots. Everybody should have a good pair of cowboy boots.

I've worn Lucchese - decided to try a pair of Tecovas (free returns - no harm) & haven't been disappointed. Great quality and pricing. I now have 3 pairs and all 3 have held up. Hard to go back to Lucchese now

I love mine. I've generally heard that the handmade line is of better quality, but who knows. I was gifted ostrich classics over 10 years ago when I graduated and I still wear them a lot. I've had zero issues with these and they're really soft.

I had the opportunity to buy a pair of caiman classics from the El Paso Outlet for under $500 and I wear them a ton too. One of them tore a bit at one of the crests at the wider portions at the top. The only other boot I wear is a high heel Ariat workboot when I know thy're going to get dirty. It really depends on what you are willing to pay and if you think it's worth it.

I ordered a pair of Tecovas and they were terrible. One of the boots felt like they left an extra "part" in the sole. They went right back and I don't think I'll give them another shot.

They didn't look as nice as I'd hoped either. Just my 2 cents.

I love mine. But then again I'm an attorney and wear them almost every time I go to court (exception: if wearing a blue suit) and oftentimes in the office as well. So I wear them all the time. Also to weddings and special events.

They were expensive, but are extremely comfortable, love them, and plan to pass them down to a son one day.

Like others have said, for a one time use, probably not worth the price tag. But for me it was a no brainer

Bought a pair last year. They are the nicest boots that I have owned (not a texags billionaire). I recommend to try them on in a store vs. ordering online. There was a variation between boots that were supposed to be the same size. I found a pair that fit just right.

I am amazed you all get so much use out of your luch boots. I have had probably around 10 pairs in the past 15 years or so, every style/material they sell them in and destroy them. They are the only over the counter boots that fit me as I have long narrow feet and they stay on where others don't.

I think they are a good brand, if a bit pricey. They fit my feet well and are some of the most comfortable boots I own (don't own any custom).

Have a pair that is gator and a pair in full quill ostrich. Brown and black colored respectively so I cover any type of situation. Also have some leather redwings that are my daily wear that are almost as comfortable, but just a bit behind.

If you are buying just to wear once at a wedding or just a couple times a year at formal events I don't think it's worth it, but if you'll wear them at least on weekends to church or something and get semi regular use out of them, I think it's worth it. Both my pairs are over 5 years old and holding up well.

Had some 1883s when they came out. The leather was nice - better quality than any of my other boots - but the heel was too narrow for me and I never got used to it. Turned my ankle once or twice and I got rid of them.

I have never had custom boots made. That said, I have two pairs of Lucchese and they are both the Classics and I absolutely can NOT imagine boots being more comfortable than these. I also can't imagine getting custom boots at what I paid for the Classics. Both were around $500 from Sheplers. One is horse and one is Spanish goat. I'd guess comparable custom would easily be double that price.

Buy a pair, you won't regret it.

Buy them.

If you can get custom boots for the price of classics I'd go for custom. (and let me know where)

Otherwise know this anyone who says no one will notice the difference between Justin Ropers and Lucchese Classis isn't a boot person.

I can't tell the difference between a $10 timex and $10,000 designer watch but boots are another story.

If they're going to be "dress" boots you should be able to get 8-10 years of use out of a pair of Lucchese Classics.

I've got a pair and they were my go-to dress boots. Never felt they were more comfortable than my red wings

I bought first pair of Tony Lama's this year for $250 and they are now my daily wear boot - more comfy than my Luchese. Will be buying more.

(I also think RW sizing has changed over the course of time - they don't seem to fit as well as they used to)

A pair of good Lucchese is nice to have, but a bit narrow. Have you tried Tony Lama?

I went out one night to this little place called Billy Bob's for a beer in a brand spankin' new pair of Tony Lamas. They were sharp, real sharp. Anyway, after a few beers I noticed this good lookin' girl at the bar was waiting for a beer so I called the bartender over for us and told her "if I can guess what color your underwear is can I buy you a beer?" She said "sure thing but I want that beer even when you guess wrong." Well I looked down at my shiny new Tony Lamas and I told her they were blue. While she thought it was funny and took my beer, that was it and no numbers were exchanged. Later than night, after a few more beers, another smokin' hot lady sauntered up to the bar. So I tried the same stunt. "If I can guess what color your underwear is can I buy you a beer?" She had a sly smile and said, "go ahead big boy, but I want bourbon chaser as well." I took a glance down to judge my competition and she must have read the shock on my face because she said "I'm not wearing any." I was relieved because I thought a I had big ol' crack, in my new Tony Lamas!

I have about 20 pair of boots. My 4 favorite are lucchese classics - 2 ostrich, 1 calf skin, 1 gator belly.

Don't buy the 1880's or whatever.

I have:

Several pairs of work boots of different brands/types for different applications. Daily wear for me. Alternate for application, and longevity of the leather boot.
Chippewa snake boots for hot weather.
Browning snake boots for colder, wetter, hunting application. (no longer made damnit))
Luchesse smooth Ostrich ropers that are 20+ years old and still look good and feel good.
Luchesse Gator back/tail that are a couple years old that look great, but after wearing them for a few hours have an outside the arch rise in the right boot that was not noticeable on the initial wear, but is very noticeable after extended wear. Love the look and outside quality, but disappointed in the feel after a few hours.

If I had to have a pair of "dress boots" that were every day wear, I would invest in customs.

All that being said, I would like to add, I was a boot or Teva sandal wearer. Boots, or Tevas, and actually went many years at one point with not even sneakers in the line up, except for an occasional pair of flip flops. Well, I needed a new pair of Tevas, and had a box in hand at a Sun/Ski store and saw a pair of Keen Uneeks (paracord type of "sandal") next to them. Someone had told me to try them on once, and I laughed. Having some time as the wife shopped, I tried a pair on and walked around. "Wow", game changer on the non-boot scale. Put down the Tevas, and bought the Keen Uneeks. After several months, liked them so much, I bought another pair in a different color. Looks a little hippie-ish, but at 50+ year of age I can wear WTF I want if it feels that good. And smells good, cause the wife does not gripe about the Teva/flip flop smell after time as the Keens have some sort of footbed that is truly anti-microbial and does not smell after long and many wearings with bare feet. Everybody knows Texas Country music is just one movement shy of hippie music in many ways. Do yourself a favor and try these Keens.
"Green" is the new RED.
