I posted this on the automotive board last week, and the only recommendation was CyFair Marine which is closed.

I have a 1990 Sea Ray that I 'inherited' from my family. It has the Mercruiser 7.4L in it. It has been in storage for the last 3 years and needs to a tune up. I replaced the batteries and it fired up like a champ this weekend, but as usual, the impeller on the water pump appears to have gone bad.

Anybody have any suggestions for a reliable boat mechanic in Katy?

Impellers are super easy DIY jobs, usually.

I live in Katy. Have used mechanic just north of brenham on 36...Schmidt I believe.

I've got used Neal's in Cypress and Stracks in Spring. Both did well, but it has been a long time ago now.

I looked at it this weekend, and the access is less than favorable. Additionally, the last guy that did the work left the hose clamps facing the block to make them completely inaccessible without removing the entire sea water pump including the belts etc.

I would rather pay someone this time and work on it next time when it is cooler...

I agree with the recommendation for Sport Marine. They do good work and have good customer service.

I use draehn boat repair in Brenham, just down past Schmidt on Salem road. But I did buy a used outboard from a guy in Katy that services outboards. I will be happy to post both numbers if interested.
