Hey guys,

I'm just about to move into a new place where I have ceilings high enough to actually put my elk on display without the risk of gouging somebody when they walk by. Anyway, the skull was finished years ago by a taxidermist in ColoradoI just don't have any way to hang it or mount it on the wall. What's a ballpark cost estimate to attach a mount to this guy? I'd prefer it to look like a skull hanging on the wall instead of having a wooden plaque around it, so I'd prefer low profile options if possible.

And any recommendations on who to use in Houston?

What he posted. I use them for my whitetail and pronghorn euro mounts.

That might come too far off the wall for my liking.

It may just be as simple as me needing somebody to attach a bracket or heavy duty wire to the back of the skull.

If you want that flush then run a wire or cable through a couple of holes in the skull base and hang it on a lag screw into a stud. I have an elk and a moose that hang this way. They look just fine.

Did that mounting my elk skull above my desk. Looks great.

I got a skull hooker for my bull last year, which I euro'd, and have been very happy with it.
My next bull, I am going to just do a skull plate with the skull hooker.

It really depends on your antlers. When I fist got done with the euro, I hung it flat and didn't like it. It didn't show off the tail the way I liked, and really didn't do justice to the horns. The skull hooker does stick out, but it is very adjustable and you can get just the right angle. So take a good long look at your horns, and decide which position you like best based on how they present. Then find a mount that lets you do that.

For flat against the wall, I just use a sturdy D-ring style picture hanger.

Those look like they would work well.

But check the weight for your elk mount. These tabs are rated @ 10 lbs

Just got done doing this one for my buddy today. Not sure how he's going to hang it but I'll make sure I report back if it's something different than what's listed above.

Looks good! Simmer don't boil. And lo and behold you still have the nose bones intact.

That's a really nice elk too. That dagger on his left is up there!

As stated above.. hammer a large nail into wall at a downward angle then slide the foramen magnum aka big ass hole in back of the skull over it. I have my bull euro mount on my wall this way, zero problems.

Also, I placed a small wooden dowel, I think it was a shish kabob to hold the lower part away from the wall like a spacer.

That's some serious skill right there, but I wouldn't risk messing up my elk. Might check out for other pieces.
