I've just recently spent some time using the timber tuff beam cutter to cut some slabs out of cedar. I'm still a beginner woodworker, but what are some ideas I could use these for? Benches, side tables, frames, etc? They aren't too wide though, and I also should have cut a couple pieces a little more thicker. Does anyone have experience making a side or coffee table with Resin?

Make sure you get the boards to a workable moisture level before you make anything. Agrams will have more info on how long they'd need to dry based on thickness, width, etc.

Once you have it dried appropriately you could make all kinds of stuff. Those look about the right width for a couch table, shelves, join a couple for a bar top, etc.

Ought1ag- To sell? Not sure, I've never sold any before! I'm not interested in selling any this time, as I promised some friends and family I would use them for some gifts to them. But what would one of these usually sell for?

Yaterag- I know they typically need time to dry, but the log that I milled has been dead for probably around 2-3 years before I cut it. I would think that would be an adequate time to be dry enough?

Also, how much would it cost to take a log to a mill to have cut in slabs? I spent over 16 hours cutting these things with that little chainsaw guide, but interested as to how much it would cost for them to cut real fast if I brought it to them

Well, not much of a set up. I used some 2X4's screwed on to the log (see pic). & then used this Timber Tuff that attaches to the chainsaw and runs along that 2X4 to cut a straight edge. This was my first time using it. Next time I want to build some sort of station that I can easily move and adjust instead of having to unscrew/screw the 2X4 after each slab.

I have no clue what they would sell for either.......we moved into a storage shed that had a few slabs like yours that someone left behind. I made 2 benches out of them and they turned out real nice.

Dead trees don't dry as fast as you think they should. I'd get a moisture meter to double check that you're in the right range. You should be around 10%. A little high or low is okay but if the wood is too wet you're could end up with a wonky piece of furniture as it dries. I don't think cedar wraps that much as it dries but it isn't worth the chance. There are some good sites on how to stack and dry your own boards if you need to dry them out a little.

Check craigslist and the woodmizer classifieds. There are usually people in the area that will come out with their portable mill and cut stuff for you. It's obviously more cost effective if you have several trees they can mill at once since they usually have a minimum fee they charge. I was going to have a guy come out and mill some osage for me a few years ago and it was going to be $500+ but that was for several trees. I don't know how much an actual sawmill would be, but I'd guess on the same level.

Mantle, console table, TV stand. Or mill them into siding for a bar, grill table, shed, or chicken coop.
