I have the Work Sharp manual sharpener, and it works great.

Although my grandpa used those plain ol pocket stones, and could sharpen a knife faster and way better than I ever could. I guess 50 years of practice helps a little bit.

Quick and easy - worksharp

Doing it the old fashioned way - a good stone with varying degrees of grit, followed by a ceramic hone

Doing it the old fashioned way with modern materials - diamond honing stones

If cost isn't a factor, get a wicked edge.

IIRC, Benchmade is 34 degrees inclusive... looking at Worksharp, they do not have that angle.

from amazon:

Quote:

  • PRECISION SHARPENING GUIDES - provide fast, easy, repeatable & consistent results. Interchangeable sharpening guides to establish precise cutting angles for your knives. Kitchen, filet, & other precision blades use 40 ° guide. Heavier duty knives such as hunting knives, outdoor knives, & most pocket knives use 50 ° guide, & includes a 65 ° guide for sharpening common household scissors, & a guide for sharpening single-sided serrations.

do they make an aftermarket guide?

I hope those aren't degrees.

40 degrees on a "precision blade" is not nearly sharp enough.

It did not copy over the symbol, but it is degrees

edit: i edited the original and hardcoded the HTML to include that symbol °

This one hase 17 and 20 degree guides which equal 34 and 40 inclusive.

Work Sharp WSGSS Guided Sharpening System, bench-top knife sharpener, angle guides, diamond plates, ceramic hone, perfect for home, camp or field sharpening, sharpens all types of knives, fishhooks &common camp tools. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00X9KU3GO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_feBbBbEQ9G567

The hand held worksharp and the Benchmade copy are 20 degree/40 inclusive.

I have both types. I keep the handheld in the truck.
The other stays at home. I recommend getting the optional upgrade kit for it. You get extra course/extra fine/strop inserts.

Truthfully, stick with 20/40 degree. Also recommend this for is need something tiny Redi Edge 40 Degree Angle Tactical Grey Pro Sharpener https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000QFZH20/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_.jBbBbRT5Y3E6. It's a 20/40 degree.

The 40 degrees is from 20 degrees on each side, which is a good angle for hunting knives. Anything between 40 & 50 degrees will give you a good cutting edge.

I learned something new today. I always thought that it was 20 total. Just looking down a knife blade, it doesn't seem like it is 40. I guess it's just a matter of perception.

I have a Work Sharp. Only complaint is it leaves a small area near the grind line un-touched, and it eventually creates a divot. Or maybe I'm just using it wrong.

I picked up an AMK 75 a couple months back and it is pretty slick. I use it mostly in combination with my wicked edge for reprofiling blades. You can set pretty much any angle and gets knives sharp crazy fast.

I have a Lansky, Loray (early Lansky) and a worksharp. The edge from the Loray I think is the most durable, but it does take a bit longer to get an edge. the 3 different grits of stones really do the job. I really haven't done the worksharp enough to be very proficient with it honestly.

The AMK-75 wasn't too bad at $600... after using it for a couple months it is definitely worth every penny.

Get a Lansky with guide rods. Learn how to use it. Don't buy a belt sharpener. They take out too much material too fast.

Everybody in camp handed them to my dad. He could put a shave edge on almost anything with a stone from a hardware store.
I've got a Work Sharp now which works. It's not near as good or satisfying.

Another vote for the Lansky. I bought the additional Saphirre stone to use after the extra fine stone that came with the kit, then i finish off with a leather strop with black and green compound.

Ive seen the warthog in action. Been wanting to buy one but never got around to it. It will be my next sharpener and works great in the field.

I have a Wicked Edge and it's the best I have used so far. I own a Sharpmaker, Warthog and Work Sharp. To me the Wicked Edge does by far the best job. Not incredibly fast, but gets knives sharp from heel to tip.
