Looking for a new CC option. I am a DA/SA fan - have CC a S&W CS9 for years and it is the action I have the most experience with and am most comfortable with. I have not looked at other options in a long time and I assume there are some new, maybe polymer, guns on the market. The CS9 is DA/SA with decocker - I carry loaded, safety off, in DA.

Criteria - I carry IWB and I am not a big guy - 1) no bigger than my CS9, 2) anything similar size/slightly larger but maybe lighter with larger magazine capacity, 3) Smaller/lighter with same 7+1 capacity.

Any advice appreciated. Also I can't find a comprehensive list of DA/SA Semi Autos that operate like the CS9 - anyone have one?

CZ P07 or P09, but they are going to be larger than what you are describing.

ETA: If you don't mind concealing a fullsize, otherwise a P225-a1, or for larger capacity a Beretta 92 compact also. Just throwing out ideas in your DA/SA request, polymer DA/SA less common than alloys and steel.

The CS 9 isn't a very heavy gun at 20.8 oz (empty) very similar to a G19 21 oz (empty). Is your main issue weight, capacity, or just want something more modern?

What is the belt situation?

Usp compact 45/40/9, HK45 compact, P30/P30sk, Sig Sauer SP2022, or the FN FNX line. That's off the top of my head for polymer options. If you go with an HK, they also have the LEM trigger as an option.

The SP2022 is a full size gun and would be difficult for a smaller guy to conceal. He's looking for a compact/subcompact.

In a perfect world, all of the above? Probably thickness & weight. I just assumed someone has come out with a smaller & lighter 9mm DA/SA - but that may be a bad assumption. I love the CS9 and would only replace it if there was a more comfortable option. Capacity is a want not really a need (and probably unrealistic in what i want).

Have several good gun belts. Use a hybrid style holster.

It's a 3.9" barrel. That's not much less than a Glock 19 at 4.01". Sight radius for the Sig is also less.

Overall, the dimensions for a Glock 19 and a Sig Sauer SP2022 aren't all that different.

Chief Specials are cool. I have one in 45, and while I would probably never carry it, I really like having it. To your specs, I think the two that fit closest are going to be the P30SK or the Springfield XD-E. Now, if trigger is important, go with the P30SK. If not and want slimmer, go with the XD-E. Personally, I did not care for the XD-E. I bought one, it didn't sell, and then it was stolen in a break in. Did not replace it.

Is there a difference between SA/DA and the more traditional DA/SA?

The FN FNP-9 is a de-cocking SA/DA. It is too large to meet your requirements, but I bring it up only to mention that FN has a newer variant that does come in a smaller version that should fit you well. I have not used one, so I do not know the model #, nor if it operates like the earlier version. It would be worth your time to investigate.

Also look at the Walther P99c. These don't have an external hammer, but they do function similarly to a SA/DA. It de-cocks through button located on the top left edge of the slide. The "AS" trigger is one of the better triggers you will find in a polymer sidearm.

They're just different ways of saying the same thing. I'm not aware of any modern pistol that's intentionally single action on the first pull and double action on the second without decocking between pulls.

I had to look that up. There are some internet posts about Taurus having an SA/DA design but I wasn't comfortable enough throwing that out there are knowledge. For the overwhelming majority of times I hear SA/DA, I will say it is just someone saying DA/SA backwards.... I've done it a time or two myself.

Just took a look at the Walther P99c AS. On paper it looks like the best of both world Polymer, striker fired, DA/SA, and very similar in size weight to the CS9. Does anyone own one or have experience with them? Am I missing anything as far as actually working the same way as my CS9? Is it's DA mode as "safe" (I know, loaded phrase) as a traditional hammer fired DA?

Some things I read say they are a little hard to come by and parts/accessories/holsters not readily available. Is that the case now?

Only P99 I've shot is the regular sized one, and the trigger was pretty good. In general, as far as striker fired guns go, Walther has some of the best triggers out of the box IMO. I've shot a P99, PPS (original version with the paddle mag release), and a PPQ.

As to holsters, finding a holster you like may be an issue. I had that issue with my SP2022 (back when I owned it) and am having a bit of a time finding one for another couple of other guns I own currently. There's a couple of holster makes out there that have a pretty large inventory of stock, others have less. Depending on the gun, you may have to search a bit.

You can an EAA witness p compact. Theyre fairly cheap, especially when they go on sale. And I think theyre a clone of the cz p07

Oh man that Smith is a brick. My last 3 CC pistols have been under 20oz loaded up.

Look into G43 or G42 if you haven't yet. They are the smallest & lightest I have found with legit useful sights that are good shooters. There are several even smaller and even lighter options available, but they are generally less controllable and have crappy sights.

That's why I clarified with "modern". I know as soon as I say there are no guns in that config, someone will come up with an example some obscure weapon most have never heard of.

The S&W isn't bad, depending on who's spec you read it is only 24-27 oz loaded. I have looked at all the DA/SA (see I got it right that time..) that y'all have recommended and the only one close is the Walther.

If you feel like giving yourself a treat, get a CZ75-PCR and send it to Cajun Gun Works for a Pro Package. It will be very comparable to the C59 in mission and feel, but the trigger will feel like the way a great steak tastes.

The Beretta PX4 has been getting a lot of attention recently, with Beretta taking input from Ernest Langdon to make it into a great out of the box carry gun. Not going to be as small as the CS9, but doable especially with appendix carry.
