Looking to have a couple of bags made - would be similar to long rifle cases. Have a nylon example of what I would be looking for. Any Texas craftsmen that the board would recommend for custom work like this?

Look at Brownlow Leather on Facebook. James Brownlow is an, Aggie, a police officer and excellent leather worker who takes on custom projects. I have a few of his pieces and they are outstanding.
