As you guys plan your summer trout fishing trips you should look at going to Blue Damsel Lodge. Our own 87 flyfisher is relocating to MT and will be the general manager of this lodge.

Not many Aggies that are running a trout lodge up North.

I may go up and fish with him this summer.

I will be working at a scout camp outside Wheatland wyoming. Any good fishing spots around there?

What is the nearest town? I am in the Livingston to Columbus area often.

Rock Creek-that's closer to Missoula, isn't it? I fished it once.

Yes, Jenny and I got new jobs and are moving to Montana. The Blue Damsel Lodge is on Rock Creek about 30 miles from Missoula. I will post pics and details soon. Website is being updated. Instagram is up and running @bluedamsellodge

We will still guide the Lower Mountain Fork at Beavers Bend in the winter and host trips to Belize.

We're going to Beavers Bend this summer. Can you recommend someone else to use instead?

Ornlu,

We are referring all of our trip requests to Beavers Bend Fly Shop while we are in Montana.
Tell Eddie and Roberta I sent you (they know me as "Rob" not 87Flyfisher).

Rock Creek is supposed to have legendary stone fly hatches in early summer

If you guys are ever looking for a good resource about Montana waters, this book is good, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B006RIFQP8/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1

It's written by Brian Grossenbacher and the added benefit of owning it is there are two photos of me in it.

So does this mean you're no longer guiding on Fork, Welsh, and the other East Texas lakes?

Finn,
Correct. We will start our season at the lodge in Mid-March next year, so it no longer makes sense to keep an expensive boat and expensive commercial boat insurance for a few trips in East Texas. I finished up my last Bass guide trips last week. I am going to work on developing guide opportunities on a little utilized Pike fishery around Missoula, so it won't be all Trout in my future.

So you're cool sharing GPS coordinates on East Texas lakes for bass, pickerel, etc, right?

edit: I kid, I kid. I mean, unless you really are willing to share them. Amirite y'all?

87, I would appreciate a job to facilitate relocation. Thank you in advance.

Along the lines of Rather be Fishing, sounds like you could use an IT guy and an HR manager. Just so happens I'm in IT and my wife is in HR.

You know, something to consider.

Watch out for all of the liberals and hippies in Missoula!

Such a gorgeous part of the state, hope to get out and visit sometime....wish cape air flew west.

If and when I make additions to our staff, I am not sure if this board should be the very first or very last place I look.

Congrats on the relocation 87! I've driven by the Blue Damsel several times headed to the campgrounds, but will need to plan a stay to meet you. Rock Creek is a real gem and my all-time favorite trout stream. Although the average trout is of moderate size, they are feisty and the wildlife cannot be beat. I've looked into the Blue Damsel before, but never understood why they seemed to promote other fisheries so much despite Rock Creek literally being in the back yard.

Next time you drive by stop, have a beer and say Hello, or book a stay.

Jenny and I will now be offering guided wade trips on Rock Creek for the Blue Damsel. The reason the lodge didn't promote fishing Rock Creek as much in the past was because of Montana's Guide & Outfitter laws. Almost all of the fishing on the creek had to be self guided for the lodge guests and a Blue Damsel employee could not be anywhere around while they were fishing. There were some obvious safety concerns about encouraging a 70 year old guy from Houston to head out alone to fish a slick, fast flowing creek in Montana .

Rock Creek is a Special Permit Water for guides and outfitters with a limited number of trips allowed per year.. Only 4 Outfitters control all of the available guide days on the creek. The outfitter who the lodge contracts with to do float trips has Rock Creek wade permits but wasn't using them often because the typical Montana fly fishing guide wants to do float trips and not wade trips. We have worked out an agreement to acquire most of the available wade trip permits from that outfitter if we just stick to guiding on Rock Creek and its tributaries in the future.

Sweet new gig. We fished Rock Creek a few years ago and was awesome! Great access, great wildlife and fun fish. There are some incredibly expensive places for ultra high net worth folks to stay along this river, staying with 87 and getting some wade fishing help will be an incredible opportunity for most people on this board! My wife, while not targeting them, caught a beautiful bull trout here in early April. Can't wait to get back up here for better dry fly fishing in the summer months when the snow isn't flying! Have wanted to book a trip with 87 and was sad to hear they are leaving but now more excited about a future trip back to MT!
