What's the best product for laser bore sighting an AR-15? I tried reading reviews on different products, but they are mixed. I have no experience with laser bore sighting, and I don't want to use a product that might damage something or get stuck in the chamber.

I bought one of the multi-caliber bore sight lasers from Cabelas. It got me on paper not too far from the bullseye with an AR and a 25-06 and a 22Lr. Its just different sized plastic rods that slide into your barrel.

Separate the upper from the lower and set it on a sandbag to stabilize it. Remove the bolt so you can look down the barrel. Point at something about 50 to 100 yards away and look at it through the barrel. Holding it in the same spot, adjust the scope to look at the same spot. You should be on paper.

Another option is to set up a paper target about 5 feet in front of you. Measure the distance from your aiming point to the muzzle (vertical distance) it should be about 1.5". Draw a dot on the paper. Shoot a hole in the paper and the bullet hole should be about that same 1.5" below the dot you aimed at. That should also get you on paper.

It will save you the cost of an LBS. All the ones below $100 aren't very accurate anyway and the ones above that price point just get you on paper anyway.

I bought a cheap Chinese bore sight on Amazon. It was a POS. Don't do that.

I bought one of these about a year and a half ago on Amazon. I've bore sighted 4-5 AR's with it and all of them were not only on paper but within a few inches of bullseye. Saved me tons of time getting a zero.

jeez, it's an ar-15. just go setup some targets at 100 yards, fire a round or two and see where they impact. Adjust as necessary. I've never taken more than 5 shots to sight in an ar-15 with this method.

I just don't understand why anyone needs an assault weapon anyway.
