I wouldn't wear it solo if there is the slightest hint of wind or rain. Cut's right through most insulation jackets and you'll start to get miserable real quick. If you have another jacket with some wind/water resistance ability wear the Kenai as a mid layer and you should be fine.
Edit: if you haven't worn Kuiu before always go a size up from what you normally wear. I typically wear large shirts/jackets and made the mistake of trying the same with Kuiu. Nothing but XL's for me.

Good quality jackets that do their job well. They just don't do everything.
Since you want something like a down jacket that does a lot with just one layer, you might look at the synthetic insulated jackets from Arcteryx, especially the ones that use Gore Windstopper fabric. Extremely light in weight, but surprisingly warm for it's light weight. And Windstopper is plenty good enough for city use. Mountain Hardware makes a few lightweight synthetic insulated jackets similar to the Arcteryxs, but with a less expensive fabric. Ex Officio used to make a really nice "city jacket" too, although it is not as waterproof as the others. It has a less "alpine-technical" look than does the Arc's or MH jackets. Patagonia used to make a similar jacket as well, but I'm not sure if they still do.
I cannot remember the model names, but you should be able to find them at their respective websites, or sites such as Campsaver or Moosejaw or Sierra Trading Post.
