Is there a reason you wouldn't store a rifle muzzle down?

I would not just for the fact that I don't want to set my guns down on its muzzle. I understand that the crown should prevent damage to the bore but it's easier to slam it into something when facing down.

Dirt/mud can get into your break or barrel and really mess up your day.

I imagine a rifle is also a lot less stable than on the wider stock.

I weld as a hobby and I plan on making a hidden storage pc for an AR. I would like the AR to be muzzle down so that when the door opens I can reach in and grab it by the pistol grip thus negating the need to pick up then reposition.

But I have never seen anyone store any rifle muzzle down. So I was just wondering if there was a reason for that.

Have you looked at Santa Cruz Gunlocks? Might give you some ideas. I have no experience with them but I think it's close to what you are wanting to do.

Basic stability is less unless in a rig built for it. I generally do it myself. Have always preferred to keep my firearms muzzle down. Old habits I guess. Plus it just makes far more sense to me.

That's totally different. I think we all assumed you meant in a rifle rack or leaning against something.
