I'm wanting to start getting my 5 year old out in the field with me, but I'm having trouble finding appropriately sized durable camo for him. He's around 40" tall and 40 lbs. Most of the stuff I've found has been for kids that are a little bigger. Any suggestions?

Are y'all sitting in a blind? Because it's called a blind for a reason. You don't need camo in a blind.

If not, good luck. My 4 year old is able to sit as still as an aspen grove in a hurricane.

No not in a blind... walking around the desert looking for quail and rabbits. I'm out in Arizona. Jeans and a t shirt work just fine, but he wanted camo. Figured it would make it more fun for him.

Maybe buy some appropriately sized clothes and safety pin some camo burlap to it? Could be a fun pre-hunt project to get him involved in the hunt?

Was just at bass pro and saw a substantial amount of kids camo. Do you have one nearby?

No, but there is a sportsmans warehouse... But I just wanted to check to see what yall have done when the kids were small.

End of season at Academy, they put kids stuff on for couple bucks. Check Wal-Mart and SW at then as well.

I just had to put my boy (similar size to ops) in whatever extra small, rather than 5t, I could find. Academy had some, but I think it was tractor supply that had the same most.

Oh wow, no condescension there at all. My oldest was able to sit fairly still in a blind as long as I brought snacks and a coloring book etc to keep her occupied. However, she ......follow me here.....WANTED to wear camo, so would be "grown up". Didn't matter if we were hunting or building fence, she wanted to wear camo when we were at the ranch.

I should have checked with the hunting fashion police first though..............

To the OP: Might have to wait until after Christmas/Deer season when all of the places put their stuff on sale. Usually by then its all really small stuff or 5XL. I don't believe I have any stuff in the size you are looking for anymore.

Oakiwear makes some stuff for kids. Bought my 6 yr old a pair of neoprene waders last year.

I've been buying (and giving away) my kids Camo since they were toddlers. I used to buy toddler and youth stuff from Academy & Bass Pro, but found for the money, you can find just as good or better in the regular clothes section of Target or Walmart. There will always be a Camo print in their current selection, and it will likely fit them like their "regular" clothes. Seems like the stuff made specially for the hunting section was too variable to ever fit just right. Granted your Camo patterns may not match, but you will save a lot of money and likely have them wear it other times too. My boys are older now and all they wear is the UA hooded pullover and whatever Camo pants fit them at Walmart (pretty sure they are Wrangler cargo for $19)

I found that spending money on a good pair of rubber Muck boots paid dividends. Academy's Game Winner are a good alternative, especially when they go on sell in January for $6. I bough 4 pair last year.
