From what I gather most 870 parts are interchangeable and these offer some improvements over the 870, mainly in the machined extractor.

I'm basically looking for an 870 for home defense with at least a 6+1 capacity. I'm not a fan mossberg saftey and bolt release.

870s are so cheap. Buy used if you don't want to pay Academy prices.

Actually, when comparing the current production 870 to the clone, many have commented on the clones have thicker steel in high stress areas, more metal than plastic, better QC, and performing at or above 870 production counterparts for much cheaper prices.

I've got warnings to notify me when one becomes available at my preferred shops because I'm going to convert one using the Bullpup Unlimited conversion kit. A lot of people knock the Chinese clone without ever researching, touching, or firing one.

Having used modern production 870, China has likely improved the product.

I don't see how it can be any worse than an 870 express.

You can get a maverick 88 for pretty cheap with a 28 and 18.5" barrel. Only down side is they are 5 +1 like 500s

I'm not a fan of shotguns as HD weapons, but I like the Norinco 870 clones. Bud's is the only place I see with 18" in stock. The rest seem to be 26" and 28" barrels with the rub running the length.

As stated, I'm not a fan of the safety and bolt release on winchesters and mossberg.

Mavericks and Mossbergs have different safetys.

Love my Mav 88. Looks like the below for a total of $205 including the gun.

I was going that rout but found a 500 cheap in a pawn shop with both barrles. I do like the safety better on the Mav 88 though.

I used one the folding adapters we have that would not work with my BCG to convert the shotgun to a side folder.

A Remington Home Defense 12 guage is $320 right now at Academy

Watch out for raptors

I have a couple of Hawk 981R and they are built like a tank. I have no issues relying on them.

Meh. Based on the op I'm assuming this is more of a financial choice, which is pretty much the only time outside of shooting birds that shotguns make sense.

Some decrying Chinese clones haven't handled many new production Remington products lately. I'd trust the ChiComs more than I would Remington at this point.
