So the Radical Islamic Terrorist in NYC was seen running through the streets brandishing a pellet gun and paintball gun screaming "Aloha Snackbar". If you were in the area and we're carrying would you:

1. Have the wherewithal to recognize his weapons were not life-threading and attempt to subdue him at gun-point?

2. Recognize his weapons were not life-threading and shoot him dead and pretend to not be cognizant of his weapons actual capabilities.

Cogitate and let us know your opinion.

I don't have a LTC, but if some dude came running out yelling in a foreign language with a gun and b**** clothes on, I'm hauling ass the other direction. You have no idea if or what is strapped to him under there. I normally have several guns in my truck or close by, but not on me. Even if I did have a gun on me, now days, the legal possibilities of shooting someone even if they are a threat can be horrible.

Hell, I drew my pistol, but hesitated the other day and didn't end up shooting when a two stray, wild dogs came running up to me and my fianc out on a place in the country. They didn't bite and I used my boot to deter anything, but when it comes to shooting, I just didn't know where they came from, who's they were or if anyone could see. The last thing I want is the law and PETA involved with me blasting a dog I felt was a threat, but was "the sweetest dog and never bit anyone". And this was a place we had permission to be on.

I'm not sure in that scenario that I could confidently determine whether a weapon was non life-threatening... especially when the adrenaline is pumping. If the dude just committed an obvious life threatening crime before that though (i.e. plowing through a crowd) - then that tells me he has intent to inflict fatal harm on myself and/or others and I would feel justified in shooting his a$$. No question.

You've never heard that before? I have a T-shirt that shows a dude standing behind a goat with his pants down and an AK in one hand with Aloha Snackbar written in font that resembles Arabic writing. I always get the stink eye from the muzzies around here when I wear it.

And to answer the OP's question; I wouldn't have shot because I would never have been there. NYC is a place I refuse to go.

First, it would have to happen here in Texas cause I would not be in NY.
That being said and to answer the question, if I had seen what he'd done and heard what he was yelling and brandishing what could have been a real weapon, I would've shot his azz on the spot. Wouldn't have taken the time to analyze if they were real guns or not.

Had they A) been bigger than only 40-50 pounds, B) showed any aggression or attempt at biting either of us or C) been pits/chows/shepherds or anything else typically aggressive, no doubt I'd have shot. I think I figured out I'd rather handle things with as little issue as possible unless absolutely necessary. If I can kick the hell out of a dog with my steel toe boot and scare it off, I'd much rather do that then fire off a few rounds and kill two dogs.

Not life-threatening, so why subdue? Maybe just keep an eye on him until the law dogs show up.
