Which .357 to get OB? Yes, I know Colt Python and EOT, but after that, what y'all like?

Why? Because wheelgun!

Double action - S&W
Single action - Ruger

It's that simple. The old ruger service/security/speed six's are good guns but I still prefer the old S&W to them. Look at the model 19 combat magnum. Dash 3 or earlier preferably.

I was hell bent on a PC 686, but when you handle side by side with a Ruger GP100, it's almost no contest. The Ruger is solid, perfect heft vs balance and locks up tight. The S&W was equally nice, but you had to pay PC pricing and I didn't like the overall looks. Having owned the GP100 as my primary smoke-wagon, I love the ease of modifying it to really get itas you want it. The front sight uses a spring detent, the grips are easily customized and adding some Wilson Combat springs makes it absolutely silky smooth. Again, none of that is necessary, but I can't help myself when it comes to personalizing my firearms.

Buy Ruger with confidence

What FIDO said. Plus, I am still mad at S&W for the fiasco in the 90's with the British ownership and the Clinton collusion to erode gun rights.

My GP100 is the best handgun that I have ever owned. And my SP101 with 3" barrel is my every day carry.

Just always wanted a 357. Prob a 3 or 4 in. Mostly leaning on OB to weigh in on which is preferred.

That M&P is nice. I could see it with light in front and in the nightstand.

Generally speaking, double action goes to S&W, single action to Ruger.

That being said, Ruger makes, some fine double action revolvers. Not as pretty IMO as S&W, but very reliable and very robust.

Agree on Smith looks.

Just looked up the cost of the Wilson Combat kit mentioned above- $8.95. How hard can it be to switch out revolver springs??

But you're not mad at Bill Ruger for his comments about no honest man needing more than 10 rounds?

Both companies screwed up in the past, both are on the right side of things now.

Bender- I would get a CZ/Dan Wesson but already have one of his 1911s. How cool is 357 with multi length barrels tho!

It's a neat concept. Never gotten to shoot one but I hear great things.

On the topic of Ruger vs S&W, I've owned revolvers made by both and won't disagree with the Ford vs Chevy comment in general, but one other observation I can make is that you see way, way more S&W guns in competition than you do Rugers. I don't know why that is because I don't shoot Revolver division, but it is a trend I have noticed.

I inherited a .357 smith and Wesson highwayman model 28-2

I love shooting it and on occasion carry it. Trigger pull and reset is great.

I love Smith wheel guns. Before I lost them in my own boating tragedy I owned quite a few.

6" Model 19 .357
Model 66-8 .357
Model 329 Backpacker 3 44Mag
Model 329PD Backpacker 4 44Mag
Model 360PD .357
M&P 340 .357 (EDC)
Model 625JM .45ACP
WWI Model 1917 .45ACP

Never thought of my self as a fanboy but I guess I am. I got my eye on a Model 617 22LR next.

More of a S&W fan myself. Both are great.

I did get to briefly play with the new Cobra from Colt the other day... great gun but wasn't as smooth as I hoped for.

No. The man was in his 70's when he said that and was from a different era. Many very pro gun folks thought the same way.

I am a big revolver fan and own a lot of them. But my favorite snubby is my Taurus 85. That gun is ridiculously accurate for what it is. In fact it goes with me a lot.

For what you'd pay for the higher end wheel guns, get two Rugers. A nice SA like the Vaquero and then the DA GP.
