Senate Bill 1001
Effective Sept. 1, 2017
SB 1001changes the actual gross weight or registered gross weight for a trailer, semitrailer, pole trailer, or mobile home from 4,500 pounds or less to 7,500 pounds or less to be exempt from vehicle inspection.

Thank goodness. That low weight was pretty dumb overkill.

Thank god I was about to be pissed. I cannot fathom how Americans allow such government bull*****

Can you imagine the reaction if king George or Santa Anna had said 'I am going to charge you the price of 20 good meals every year to put my ugly ass sticker and piece of tin on your horse, and tax you too, to pay a bunch of jackwagons to give you attitude while you stand in line to pay me.'

Yet here we are allowing ourselves to get ****ed with even worse.

At least this is a tiny step in the right direction.

Nice, I am guessing since mobile home is included, so is a travel trailer?

The fact that I have to register a trailer that the government NEVER sees every year is baffling. Legalized theft.

I expect so. I just bought a used trailer and the registration expired the last day of August. Going to the courthouse next week to transfer title and I will post if they ask for proof of inspection. When I called back in August they expected it. We shall see

Thank you. Inspection stations did not seem to keen on inspecting these trailers.

So my 10kGVWR car hauler with the same brakes and lights as every 7500gvrw trailer still has to get inspected. Dumb

What is the issue with the inspection? You are pulling something with an axle down public roads. If your trailer is in poor repair and causes an accident that is not a good look.

1. Anyone who's trailer sucks so bad that it causes an accident isn't going to actually get it inspected anyway, regardless of the law. People maintain their equipment or not based on their own personal work ethic, not some bull**** inspection law.
2. The pathetic state inspection is not likely to discover anything dangerous anyway, unless the lights don't work. Everyone knows it's just a money grab.
3. If you cause an accident, there are already civil and criminal laws and courts to address it - juries are free and these limited and useful government resources are only utilized when something has happened that actually needs to be addressed. An unbiased jury will hear both sides' best arguments and evidence as to why they should or should not be held accountable.
4. It's a government program - therefore it will be applied unevenly, some will take bribes for black market stickers, some will pass it anyway for a little extra kick, and some people will be abused because they try to follow the law. Some with connections and that give kickbacks will make fortunes off of opening licensed facilities in Cush locations, or squeezing out fair competition, That's how all government programs work. Always.
5. It's another excuse for illegal detention, searches and seizures by law enforcement for no reason
6. The entire concept is completely and totally against every single principle of this country. It's socialist big government authoritarian bull***** The founding fathers were so completely sure that we would never allow government to restrict our right to travel and to own property that they didn't even feel the need to spell it out in the bill of rights. It never ever even occurred to them that we could be so stupid. But here we are. Our government has no right whatsoever to require inspections. It's absolutely unconstitutional. Unless you live in a socialist authoritarian government where those principles were forgotten and manipulated long ago.

How's that?

i understand your sentiment, but here is the thing. The government owns the roadway. They can put whatever restriction in place they see fit, regardless if you agree or disagree. Much like the need to obtain a driver's license to legally operate a motor vehicle on the roadways. Or the requirement to wear a seat belt. or the requirement to have a minimum level of auto insurance. me personally, I wish every vehicle and trailer on the road had to pass a very strict safety inspection at least once a year. Why? because there are a lot, a lot a lot a lot, of ****ty vehicles/trailers on the road. I don't want to be the person in the wrong place at the wrong time when one of these ****ty vehicles or trailers craps out. call it socialism, call it peace of mind, I don't care.

The problem is the penalties for not adhering are too soft. and we all know why, because the people most likely to not comply are not the hard working, honest, follow the rules type....

so with inspections in place, there are a lot, a lot a lot a lot, of ****ty vehicles/trailers on the road. Interesting.

Ha... this aint sheit. Property taxes is what is unconstitutional. All it is is a rental fee. If you dont pay the rent on your property then the govt. comes in and evicts you. And rents it to someone else. That is fckin against the law.

it is incredibly depressing to read that. the government is owned by citizens. it doesnt have any ownership interest of its own. its only reason for existence is to do things like build roads for free use by the public.

of course they cannot put whatever restriction on it they see fit.

that is the saddest, most brain washed, most disappointing thing to see an american type. that is pure stalinist, authoritarian, anti american, anti freedom bull****, just like you've been taught by all our government employees all your life probably.

that is basically the one opinion/vote that you are NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE IN AMERICA.

the first amendment would have been 'there shall be no law abridging freedom of travel', if the founders had ever thought we would be such socialist sheep to ever question it. but they never even dreamed that a human could have your opinion, much less that people would let government act on it.

very, very sad.

Though the govt doesn't own the roadways, I feel like a major role of the government is to ensure that people don't infringe on each others' rights. Not the right to not be butthurt over a statue or something posted online, but the right to travel the roadways (that we pay lots of taxes to build and maintain) with a reasonable expectation that you won't run into a pickup bed trailer with no lights being pulled behind oxen down the centerline in the middle of the night. While I would prefer to see the current set of laws enforced more uniformly (like at least checking out ragged-out vehicles with expired paper plates from other states), I am not opposed to requirements that help ensure that all the vehicles on the road meet a certain level of safety.

you dont think a jury with a criminal negligence, manslaughter charge or worse, depending on the problem they cause, on the criminal side, and a negligence or worse claim on the civil side, if they cause an accident, is a better threat than a $75 ticket from some cop on the off chance they get caught in violation of some jackwagon dumbass law on some random traffic stop?

or how about the fact that IF THEY ARE LAW ABIDING, and BOTHER TO obey the bull**** law and pay their bull**** fine and waste their time at the bull**** inspection, that the simple fact that they complied with all that bull**** is evidence that they werent negligent, making getting a conviction/judgment more difficult? even if their actual trailer is garbage and they actually caused the accident?

or of course my other bullet points made earlier.

and this is all just as a practical matter.

the simple fact is, if this were still america, the government could NEVER enact this kind of bull****, and NO ONE would EVER allow it to do so, much less WISH FOR IT.

I know, I am insane.
