Hi. My Dachshund recently passed away and I'm looking into getting another. I'm looking for a Dachshund puppy that will mature at 13 to 20 pounds. Does anyone have recommendations for a Dachshund breeder they've used besides Aggieland Dachshunds?

Aggieland Dachshunds has mostly smaller toy Dachshunds and John will let me know next time breeds larger parents..

Stormtrooper,
Very sorry to hear about your loss, know all too well how that feels, our last dachshund made it to 17 and it was incredibly tough to lose him.

However, check out Jackie Odstrcil of Dachshunds of Texas in Caldwell (Cook's Point specifically), she is the breeder of our current dachshund as well as my wife's previous one. Her direct phone number is 979-272-3340.

Our current little guy is a red and is a super dog, he is very good-natured and loves people and most other dogs. Obviously he's a dachshund so he's stubborn and all that, but I'm sure you know what you're in for there.

He's right at 20lbs right now (a little chunky we're trying to get him to lose a pound or 2), here's his pic for reference:

Hey Echoes,

Talked to Jackie. I asked if I could come out and see her place after the football game Saturday. She said she doesn't want people coming by unless they're going to get a Dachshund. I told her we'd like to get a another Dachshund but that I didn't want to buy one right then and there on Saturday. She then told me that I wasn't serious about buying a Dachshund...

We went around and around like this for a bit before I caught on that she didn't want to see me unless I planned to buy a dog right then and there. I don't know if she ever caught on that I didn't want to buy a dog before seeing her place and the litter first.

Anyways... do you or anyone else have a recommendations for Dachshund breeders?

We lost our female dachshund last October at 16 years of age, so we also know how hard it is. I hope that we provided her with as good a life as she deserved because she provided our lives with a lot of joy.

We picked up a female from these folks in Blanco, Texas on 9-1-17 and we're looking forward to getting a half sister to her on Friday:

So far so good. The one we have now has a big personality for such a little dog but that's seems to be normal for the dachshund. Parents are on site and are in the 13-15 lb range. I believe they're not having more litters untill next spring, but I thought I'd tell you what I know. These folks have been great and no high pressure stuff as you described.

Oh, that's what I'm looking for! Are there any more pups available in the litter?

As far as I know, all of the pups are spoken for out of the three litters she had. But give them a call or a quick e-mail anyway, the lady's name is Holly and she's been really nice and very helpful. There might be one or two that are still available & I would also check them out on the facebook. Good luck.

Sorry for your loss.

Echoes - Are dachshunds typically stubborn? I've never owned one, but i've always thought a red long-haired one would make a great pet.

I have not used her but this is an option. Weatherford TX.
I am on my 5th red LH doxie since about 1967.
Doxies are in the top 10 breeds known for being stubborn, but they are really smart/sneaky.
I have had standards. Current one is about 30 pounds but is not fat, just big.
I hope this helps.

German Heelers. My nephew has a dauchshund that actually helps us move cattle around in the pens. Damnedest thing I've ever seen!

Really?! Can you post a video?!

I'll try to get video the next time we work cattle! The dog actually comes from a line of dachshunds in the Jacksboro area. I've never been to their ranch, but the owner of that line of dogs regularly holds team roping events at his arena. Reportedly, when it comes time to move the roping steers from one end of the arena to the other, there are twenty dachshund or dachshund mix dogs doing the work. That would be a better video, so I will see if my nephew can get one of that for you.

That is so cool! I bet that video would do well on world's funniest home video!
