Just got a new house in Georgetown, TX and my yard has chiggers. I was reading on diamotaceous earth. Anyone know that stuff actually works?

Diatomaceous earth should kill them. In another direction, sulfur dust or sulfur granules repel soft bodied insects. As does garlic powder or garlic spray. Recommend that you apply some product near/on exterior of house in case they or other insects "escape" to your house.

Spray Bifen I/T in your entire yard. No chiggers, no ants, no fleas, no mosquitos.....kill them all.

What kind of grass do you have? Chiggers don't live in St Augustine. Also, fire ants take out chiggers and ticks.

sheeeeeeetttttt.
My grandmother's house has St. Augustine, and fire ants, and if you didn't spray yourself before walking through the yard, you would of get chiggers.

Seems like chiggers have been really bad this year. Not sure why.

I have Bermuda on the landscaped portions and the back of the yard isn't landscaped yet and has natural grasses. The chiggers are in the "wild" type grasses.

I swear only certain people get bit by chiggers. I'm of Czech and Welsh stock and they have no interest in me. Now, my wife of Swedish origin gets bit all to hell every summer.

It's true. Me and my 4 year old get lit up but my wife and 2 year twins never get them. Despite being in the same field (my parents land).

Easiest thing, mow and let your yard COMPLETELY dry out for about a week. If you have irrigation, don't run it for awhile

Everyone is probably getting bit, it's a matter of whether or not you are allergic to the enzyme they inject you with.

Filled feeders last weekend and got lit up by those little bastages.

I was going to say burn your yard, but this guy gets it too. English-Irish-Scottish here. They really don't bite me. Other people that I'm around will get et up (yeah, et), but I get a bite here or there from the same outing.

Mosquitoes don't like me either. That Tabasco Super Bowl commercial was plagiarized from my life. Except that whole Cajun/Coon A$$ swamp thing.

In Georgia, I would use Bayer Complete and it took care of them. I used granular and a hand spreader

Back to the OP, DE will work with chiggers, fire ants, fleas and ticks (supposedly), i used my spreadder to dust the yard. Spreadding it was the hardest part....

You need to poke around here more often. Van Zandt County catches it hard and often. Also, don't forget about George Carlin

So of all of the chemical and organic options....are any of the options harmful to dogs running in the yard?

grew up in texas. as kids we ran barefoot through deep grass, i can't remember EVER having chiggers.

moved away 27 years ago. come back just about every three months or so, but when i leave i'm COVERED with chigger bites - they take a week to fade, and itch like hell.

makes me wonder if this 'immunity' to the enzyme fades with lack of exposure.

Allergies are known to change, and not always for the better. Poison ivy didn't used to bother me, now it triggers creative dancing to avoid it.

Fire ants. They kill both chiggers and ticks.

They seem worse this year for some reason. That or I'm getting allergic to them when I used to not be. Had a good time rubbing bleach on my and my sons legs.

True. Along with rattlesnakes, skunks and any other animal born on or in the ground.

Chiggers thrive in bermuda and native Texas vegetation, but normally are not found in St. Augustine.

diamotaceous earth Worked great in the backyard. Search online for proper mixing ratios, but I mixed about a cup to a gallon of water. Then used a hose end sprayer to soak the yard. Make sure it's thoroughly mixed. I used a drill and a paint mixer.

Worked like a charm and diamotaceous earth is harmless to pets and kids.
