The "Food & Spirits" board couldn't help...I'm gonna try to make some beef jerky this weekend in a dehydrator. Never tried this before...anyone have a recipe they'd care to share?

cut up meat, bunch of salt, bunch of pepper, bunch of garlic granules, bunch of lea & perin worstershire, little bit of liquid smoke, little bit of cayenne pepper. marinate overnite in zip lock

dry it out in a dehydrator

I add some black pepper. When the jerky has lost 30% of its green weight, it is done.

Slice as you see fit, +/- 3/8" thick. Marinate in your flavor of choosing...Worcestershire, soy, steak sauce, mustard, as favored for 24-36 hours. Then lay it out and salt pepper it (less salt, more pepper). Then hang it to dry or lay in dehydrator until it reaches consistency you like.

Any advice on using an oven? We don't have a dehydrator. I found some on the Google, but I'd figure I'd try here, too.

get a really big drip pan?

i used an electric smoker and it took me 6 hours to do 3 lbs worth at 170 deg.

I have not used an oven in a few years, but simply turn it on to its lowest setting, insert meat on a rack, and leave the door propped open (I use an oven mitt). I do it overnight so it is done when I wake up.
