Why is my cot in the tree?
And don't sleep with scorpions!
I was no great boy scout, but sad to see it go.

Most enjoyed summer camp I ever attended, as a Scout and as a leader. Sad to see it gone.

MANY a trip to the rifle range on the other side of the river

so is it being sold like strake was? in that area I wouldnt think that it has been engulfed by urban sprawl the same way

Maybe we can get a clan of Strake Staffers to sneak in the night before and hang up some Strake signs, complete with stripped out screws, or the old saran wrap over the toilet trick, or haul the cannon up and give them a "wake up call" on the way out.

I have found memories of days at Cima, but there just isn't much justification for keeping it.

It was underutilized by campers. Summer camps numbers weren't fantastic and weekend camping at other times was almost non existent. After the Blanco flood wiped out river camp, they had to take a hard look at it and the numbers just weren't there to keep it open. It had been running a $600k deficit for years and that doesn't even begin to account the River camp replacement cost...

It just isn't the destination camp for most people. The new Strake will cover the people that want to stay close to Houston (which is quite a lot of people) and those that want a better camp than Strake were already bypassing Cima for other options.

Man those are beautiful pictures they have on there. I didnt see a price listed. I wish the state would buy it and secure as a small state park

My memory of El Rancho Cima was of a hot rocky scrub brush laden place full of old cots and large canvas military service tents, scorpions and daddy long leg spiders all over the showers. My memory looks nothing like those pictures.

I taught rifle and shotgun marksmanship there the summer after my Fish year at A&M. I have a lot of fond memories of that summer

Your memory just needs a better marketing team.

Ironically there is normally a lot of post processing going on up there and my memory of things looks way better than reality.
