I want to feed my bass some crawfish. Also have a bank I want to try and have them plug a leak. Did this ten plus years ago and it seemed to work. Any recommendation where would be a good place to buy a bunch inbetwen Austin and Houston other than HEB..

Seems like some mighty expensive fish food for bass..... I guess technically you could buy live crawfish as the supermarket but that might be expensive depending on how much you want.

I would suggest contacting a crawfish farmer in the El Campo area. They may cut you a better "wholesale" deal

Yea. I realize it is expensive fish food. More of an experiment with this one bank in my pond. I had it dug out a few years ago and there seems to be some seepage. I have the fish in the pond right now so I don't want to drop water levels, so going to try this route. I tried this in another pond of mine years ago and it seemed to work. Crawfish will go down the bank borrow in packing the bank line. At least that's what they seem to do last time. And my fish will get a good feeding too.

You'll need some serious BTUs for that

Find a ditch with standing water. Wade in with an oversized tea strainer. If they are there, this time of year you will catch a decent amount of smaller 1-2" crawfish. We used to catch a ton in the ditch behind my neighborhood as a kid and I see mounds in the ditch off Hwy 2920 near Tomball all the time.

Flooded bar ditches in SE Texas are loaded with them. A few minutes with a fine mesh dip net and you will have many, of several species.

This.

I live south of Temple, and get a wet weather creek running through my yard that's full of black land soil. A week or so ago after a good rain, I pulled 8-10 out of my yard, and all much were larger than 1-2".

Are you REALLY sure about this? I have a couple of ponds that leak, so I'm interested. My internet searching has only found how crawfish CAUSE leaks and sometimes removal is needed to help the pond to seal. May want to check out before you put them in....

I'll be honest, I've never seen a pond anywhere south of Nebraska that didn't just naturally end up with crawdads in it in a VERY short time. If you have enough water running in to fill a pond you'll have crawdads.

I think Boyd's in Texas City has the small "peelers" for $.99 / pound

The spot that is the problem is a small gravel area with some clay around it. When I did it in the past I poured two big toe sacks in the area. Although I could not see this actually work, my imagination figured they went down didn't want to get consumed by my bass so they borrowed into the mud packing the mud in. However they did this it worked. Worst case, my bass will get a good expensive meal.

Just bought some crawfish from boyds in texas city yesterday and they have a small size that is $20 a sack, so even less than a dollar a poumd. I was buying cooked so I just saw the live prices, no idea what size they are.

Get a Seine net. Find a bar ditch. Profit.

My buddy can get you what they call "stockers" or "seedlings". Not sure if most people know that the majority of fields are "seeded" from the start

That's my thinking. Years ago we furrow-irrigated into a playa lake full of crawdads. Blasted things would follow the water upstream, crawl through the siphon tubes, then burrow into the ditch banks. Was not unusual to have the ditch wash out because of it.

The area I want them to work on is 30 feet wide. Dont see those little boogers borrowing that far.

Okay, but other than digging holes, I'm fuzzy on what you think they will do to help you.
