a red patch on the belly? B-1 83 daughter texted me a pic this morning of a spider. It had a "widow family" body, an almost sideways red hourglass on the belly, but she said it was almost dark shiny green on top. Can I post a pic from my phone?

I've seen light brown colored widows and some that have different hour glass configurations, so it could very likely be a widow but perhaps with slightly different genetics.

Without seeing a pic it sounds like a brown widow. Did it look anything like this?

If the red markings were anything but perpendicular to the body, I'd say Black Widow immediately - just an immature female. Too dark overall for a brown.

Could be an odd looking widow spider. Check out the orchard spider/orchard orbweaver. Some of the body shots are very similar to a widow spider.

Brown widow. Weaker venom. As long as you are no allergic, neither is life threatening to a healthy person.
