Gotta question for yall: came home to find a 7.5 ounce bag of double chocolate milano cookies had been eaten by our wonderful 100lbs dog.

I don't think I should be worried because they don't contain that much chocolate, but I've never been in this situation.

Do I need to worry? My vet is closed so I can't call them.

Any help is appreciated.

My kids feed that much chocolate to 15 lb weiner dogs everyday.

I'll let the pros answer you, but I prob wouldn't worry.

The pros will be around soon. Until then, google chocolate toxicity signs in dogs and watch for whatever it says. That small amount and that big a dog, you should be good.

Thanks, Brush! I didn't think it would be a big deal because they don't contain THAT much chocolate; but then again, I'm not an expert either.

Is it dark chocolate or milk chocolate? Answering for vet wife. If milk chocolate, get ready for vomiting/diarrhea. Dark would be more worrisome. .

The ingredients say that it's dark chocolate. But again, it was 7.5Oz bag of Milano cookies. Most of it is cookies, and then there's chocolate spread thinly between the cookie wafers.

Mostly cookie helps. Just your choice whether to get treatment.

Thanks yall.

Talked to a vet on the phone and she said, "Being 100lbs and it being milano cookies with dark chocolate, he's probably fine. Since you discovered the wrappers 1-1/2 hours after leaving him, there's no point in making him throw up because it's already passed within 15 minutes. Monitor him. If anything happens, he'll start throwing up and have diarrhea."

Happy valentine's day!

Couple years ago at Christmas, our lab ate a two pound bag of milk chocolate followed by a bag of dark chocolate a couple days later followed by a tin of peppermint bark a couple days later. On his third vet visit, my wife asked what we should do because he wouldn't take his anti-nausea medicine. The vet's reply was "sounds like you should wrap it in chocolate". Pretty sure he was kidding.

My 45 pound border collie got into some chocolate a few years back. At the time, my vet said it would take an ounce of chocolate per pound of body weight to be a concern.

My buddy feeds his dog M&Ms as treats.

My aunt's springer spaniel ate a bag of chocolate chips once. It made the dog walk backwards then she vomited it up.

He will probably just bark in an Italian accent until it passes.

I am not a vet and can't guarantee it will not harm your dog, BUT

I have a 65lb 2.5 year old lab and she ate a whole bar of dark chocolate about a year ago. By the time we found out, it had already been almost 36 hours so we didn't do anything at that point and she ended up being totally fine.

She also has eaten 1/2 can of copenhagen, and 1/2 of one of those green rat blocks that my wife didn't put it one of the pet-safe contraptions. I am convinced my dog just has built up a strong immunity from all the cow poop she has eaten in her life.

I think I would have moved the chocolate stash after the second time...

He seems to be doing fine this morning. He jumped in our bed, shed his daily coat of fur, insisted we pet him for 10 minutes, and then lost his cool when I asked if he wanted to go outside.

I think he's okay. Thanks yall for easing my nerves.

All in all I do believe your pup is fine. A few Halloweens ago we accidently locked our 70lb mix/mutt dog in the barn. The barn had 2 decent sized buckets of "fun sized" candy when we left for the night. Well, the next morning we walked into the barn to find all the candy gone with only a few rappers on the ground... we also found over a dozen fat and popped dog ticks on the ground. I'm not sure if our pup got so nervous his blood pressure ran high or if the sugar in his bloodstream made the ticks fill up and fall off? Anyways, after we opened the door he took off running around the farm and was fine.

I know, right! It was more of a pantry door issue. As in the kids and wife not shutting it. The peppermint bark was on the counter. Never expected he'd eat that...or even be able to get it out of a tin.
