I have a 7 m/o GSP that I want to be trained this spring. I'm still a student so anywhere close to College Station would be preferred? Anyone with experience with anybody around the area? Thanks
Call up Hidden Lake. They are located in Anderson just outside navasota. I don't know if they will work with a GSP but I'm sure they can get you in the right direction
Pecan Hill in Brookshire. Have trained 2 labs for me and multiple pointers for buddies. Warning - not inexpensive! But I think worth every penny. Pete is the owner and seems like a grumpy old Cajun - but I have decided he really loves dogs. My wife's mini Australian Shepherd is there now - never dreamed they would train a non-hunting dog but told me they started a few years ago. Pete and his wife take the mini's home with them the last 2 weeks for "home training". Watching him work with that little dog and my wife (who was clueless on dog training and very nervous) makes me believe he loves what he does. FYI of my 2 labs, one was a very gentle female and the other was the most hardheaded wild a$$ male. He did a great job with both ends of the spectrum. A less experienced/caring trainer could have easily ruined the female - he turned her into the best hunter I will probably ever own. Just my 2 cents.
I sent my lab to Julian Weslow @ The Dog Ranch in Trinity, TX. Met him during a rattlesnake avoidance class he was doing at the Fort Worth Hunters Expo. Julian is old school and has trained numerous field trial champions, but typically likes to work with true hunting dogs.
Because he travels for shows and guides hunts, you want to catch him during the hunting offseason
Semaphore Retrievers in Dime Box. Dave Morman is the trainer and only takes 10 dogs at a time. He and his wife do all the training. I've had my black lab female with him since August and he's done a fantastic job.
