Anybody own one of those car chargers/starters. Looks like a battery charger but has enough power to jump start a car without having to be hooked up to another car.

Wanting to get one for a Christmas gift, but not sure of size, brand, quality, etc. Any thoughts?

I've had this one for a few years. Works well. Have jumped diesel trucks and other cars with completely dead batteries multiple times. I keep it in a car that isn't driven often and it seems to hold a charge. The whole kit is fairly compact

We just got some of these for our work trucks. Getting them all charged now so don't know and hope we never have to know how well they work.

Dad gave me one of these when I went to A&M. It's been in my toolbox since. I try to pull it out every few months and make sure it's still got a charge, and recharge as necessary.

ETA: It's saved my ass before when I had a battery go dead, in a truck and a boat. With a full charge, you can get at least 5 starts on a boat.

Buy a 1' extension cord for recharging.
