Do any of y'all have these binos? I don't have a pair and was hoping to wait for a good deal and this seems to fit the bill. Should I just pull the trigger or what?

I was in a Cabelas store on Tuesday. They had all the diamondbacks in a big bin with prices slashed.

My understanding is that Vortex is rolling out new models so that's why we are seeing such big discounts across their lines all of a sudden.

You might consider the Vortex Raptor in 6.5x or 8.5x. These can often be found under $100, and will fit most kids old enough to use a bino correctly. They have a very good view for it's price.

Also check the Eagle Optics website too. They have some very viable options in their own label, and under the Atlas Optics label. The AO Radian might also be a good choice, if you are wanting a 42mm bino. They also sell Opticron too. I cant tell you much about those, but there will be one or two models that might work well for the kiddo.

IMO your best bet, if you are willing to mess with rebates, is a Vanguard Endeavor ED. After rebate price is around $150. Better view than a Diamondback, and a better neckstrap. Be aware that it has a very quick focus speed. This is of course assuming you are wanting a 42mm bino. If you need a 32mm bino, let me know.

I ended up getting the Leupold BX-2 Acadia 8x42mm for $139 including tax and shipping for him.

Hopefully I didn't screw up.

I believe it goes to the end of the year. Go to the bhphotovideo site and look up the 8x42 and 10x42 Endeavor ED's, and you should find more info there.

I don't think so. Leupold sells a good product, and they back up their products just as good as does Vortex.

Don't be surprised if the focus wheel is a bit stiff. See this a lot with Leupold binos. Does not really affect function all that much, and will most likely loosen a bit with use.
