Has anyone done this? I've seen a few kits out there but wanted to see if anyone has done it. The thread about when to chamber got me thinking about a detachable magazine. I shoot a 30.06 so I believe that qualifies as a "Long Action", so if anyone has done something similar, please let me know. Just intrigued about the difficulty to do so and what parts you use.d

Not that bad. Biggest pain on the last one I did was having to shave out the inside of the stock so the magwell would fit.

Its easy! I just replaced a factory stock in my Remington 700 (.308) with a Magpul Hunter 700 FDE. Also picked up the respective magazine well.

Installation took less than 5 minutes. Only two hex screws needed to be moved, and it feels like a completely different gun (with detachable magazine). Would recommend!

Edit: Here's a table detailing Remington's Long vs Short Action. Also, there are a few tutorials on youtube on installation.

Yes, it is done all the time, but gets expensive fast when you buy the stock, bottom metal, and mags. There are exceptions, but if you buy a stock that is milled to accept your barreled action and the detachable bottom metal it is going to start at $600 and go up.

This is probably your cheapest and easiest option:

You have to add this as well:

I feel kinda dirty every time I handle a rifle with a detachable mag. I realize I'm outta the loop as I haven't really been paying attn during the evolution of the hunting rifle, but it just weirds me out. Progress and such as.

Get off my lawn.

I'm not looking to replace the whole stock, just the bottom plate. Standard holds 3 rounds in there but I was hoping to just replace the trigger guard and butt plate.

Any particular model eyeguy?

I'll take a drop floorplate over a detachable mag on a 700 everytime.

Yep. And I like a blind magazine on a wood stock even more.

It's okay. We all have our own faults.

You might try this ... $120

Did Rem make DBM for the .30-06? Might try that first - I have a .270 700 mountain rifle with DBM and I like the setup

I've got a HS Precision on a custom 6,5 CR; haven't really handled it enough to have an opinion - it might need a little finish work but the release and feed is a little awkward

West Texas Ordnance manufactures a nice one that I ordered but haven't used

And I'd also look at Pacific Tool and Die:

PTD has tons of goodies for Rem 700 as well as savage howa etc to further customize / accurize

Also if in CS call Derrick Ratliff at Horizon he might have what you need in stock and good recommendations

Hollar at us, simplest cleanest swap would be going to an HS style mag and they are nice and will fit in the factory BDL cut. What I personally run on all my guns
