Do deer eat canola? I've read that they do. Farmer planted our fields in canola instead of wheat this year. Normally we are seeing 25+ deer in the wheat by now but they aren't touching this stuff. I realize it's a different type of plant and may be more attractive as it gets colder. Just asking for anecdotal experience.

I shot a 190" Muley out of a canola field. Saw a 200+ the same morning. They love the stuff. High fat content right before winter.

They will eat it and like it, just may take them a little while to figure it out.

If they eat canola instead of wheat, they will be gluten free and not require as much oil to fry.

Canola is also called rapeseed. So be extra careful. Those bucks may go all Baylor on you after eating them some rapeseed.

If deer aren't used to canola it may take them several years to figure it out. This is year 2 for me and they still aren't eating much of it.

We once had a winter pea food plot that could of passed for a legit farming operation. It was exceptional but for the fact the deer were not eating it. The whole stand matured and died.

The next year was similar but we were ina drought.

I guess a deer accidentally picked up a pea pod while going for the corn and they were hooked. The whole field was nipped down to the ground.

Winter peas are what we call an ice cream plant. Deer love em.

Thats what I am afraid of. Neighbors' wheat has come up and our deer seem to have moved over.

Once they figured it out they greatly enjoyed them

Same thing happens with sunflowers. I get one season. Next year? OmNomNom when they are about 3" tall.

Yeah, well, I always heard there were three kinds of suns in Kansas. Sunshine, sunflowers, and sons-of-*****es.
