About 12 yrs ago I picked up a 20' GN trailer load of various creosoted corner and line poles, plus some 1x8" corral boards, from Leo Hicks Creosoting in Alto. Has anyone purchased from them recently? Not much info on the `net.
The creosote was fully penetrated, many of the posts still are as dark as the day we planted them. Much preferred over anything else available treated, or cedar.

They are still there. Pass it every time I go to our place up there.

We buy truckloads of CCA posts from them for resale, they are really good posts. And yep, that's them ^

Must be cousins or something....CCA treated posts, not creosote. Too much of a crap shoot on CCA longevity, in my opinion. And the price list says January 2011, so not likely accurate.

I'll give the original company a call, to check status and pricing. My nephew said he has seen their delivery trucks in the area, dropping off utility poles. That's a good sign.

After 2008 the public could no longer buy creosote treated wood. You can find used ties at the lumber yards for posts but, will not be able to buy new creosote treated wood. Something to do with EPA registration.

Also check with your own local electric utility and ask about used Creosote

One of the reasons the new railroad ties are cement. Also do not see as many utility poles that are creosote. They have gone the way of everything else good the government finds a way to screw it up!!

The electric utility I work for I'm the Lead over our Engineering Standards, Distribution Design, and Project Management department and our Standard is only Creosote on our wood poles for Transmission and Distribution. Creosote is the best treatment for Texas Climate but also our soil type in our service area. Also its better than other preservative as far as climability for our Lineman. We get all our poles from Lufkin Creosote

Well your information would be better than any I had. Sorry. Maybe they just don't sell to John Q Public anymore.
I do not really know because we build all of our fence out of pipe for corners and stuff so we buy very few cedar even anymore

I think it's getting tighter for the general public. I know we will give our old poles to our members or public. Some electric utilities will offer this and some won't. We just have you sign a waiver. We will buy Penta poles on a emergency basis since it's the closest to creosote. I would bet you could find Penta treated post that still would be better than CCA.

Creosote posts are still available to the general public, at least from Leo Hicks Creosoting.

Nice lady gave me some prices over the phone for 5" or 6"x8' corners ($14.07 and $18.90), with 3-1/2"x6-1/2' line posts at $6.15/ea.
Full 1"x6" corral boards also available.
