So its about time I took a few days for myself. I could use a double dose of Prescription Strength Nature.

My first thought was Inks Lake, or Lake Whitney, or another lake I'm familiar with, but TPWD's website shows all of the campsites are booked or flooded out. So, I'd like to camp out for a few days and fish a new location. How about Guadalupe River State Park?

Trouble is, I've never fished a river in my life - only fresh water lakes or deep sea fishing. Can you guys give me an "Expliain like I'm five" lesson on how to fish the Guadalupe? Alternatively, can you recommend a different state park w/ campsites available and fresh water lake fishing?

The easiest thing to do is throw small spinners (ex. Beetle Spin) on an ultralight spinning rod/reel. Cast along the banks and alongside any other structure you see.

Aren't there some private campgrounds around San Marcos/New Braunfels? I've only been to GRSP a few times and it wasn't to fish, but I thought I remember most of the water being pretty shallow.

I prefer to throw soft plastics. Texas rigged (Google it) or weightless. 4" Power worms are one of my favorites. I like their small grubs too. Pumpkin or Watermelon are good colors. If its clear water, choose natural colors. Get you some 2/0 or 3/0 EWG (extra wide gap) hooks and some 1/16 or 1/4 Oz bullet weights. Get after it! Post a report and post back if you have ?'s

Rooster tail spinner bait, orange and green body with a gold blade. The bass and bigger sunfish cannot lay off it. Guaranteed bites.

They won't be big by and large, but they will be aggressive, so go very light on tackle.

As mentioned above beetle spins work. Also curl tail grubs and crawfish shaped soft plastics, and small diving plugs that look like shiners or crawfish, like a rebel teenycraw.

you might try up the river (like up stream of the main day use area) or about 1/2 mile down the river (near where Honey Creek flows into the Guadalupe).

you should bring a kayak or canoe if you have one, but if not you can rent one from Bergheim Campground. The place looks a little ratty, but the people are nice. You can either paddle down the river, or just take the canoe back to the park so you're not having to walk up/down the bank.

i would suggest what they call the waggon ford walk in camp area if you'll be tent camping. its got the best proximity to the river and is, imo, the prettiest of the 3 campgrounds.
