Our family has been raising mainly Fallow Deer for 20 + years. Took some 3 yr. old bucks to a customer the other day for mainly breeding purposes. Have a blast dropping deer off and really see some pretty places in Texas![img][/img]

How do you get them loaded in the trailer? Are they fairly tame or do you have to sedate them?

Fallow Deer are the easiest to work with. The bucks are sedated then put in a pen that is enclosed. They are loaded into separate compartments in the trailer. For the most part during the trip they just lay down and enjoy the ride. I usually have to poke them with a stick to get them to unload. The pic of the buck jumping out of the trailer I am actually inside the trailer behind the gate.

Just curious about the spotted ones. We are low fence but see fallow on a regular basis. We have brown and white. But no spotted. Will a white or brown ever throw a spotted?

Had Red Deer also but the CWD paperwork is a pain so we are just about done with them. All Fallows now and there is a good market for them.

I see. Interesting. Why is the paperwork more difficult on some exotics than others? Do y'all have any axis? It always seems like they are the preferred exotic when I talk to people about booking hunts.

Fallow is on my dream hit list.

I'm guessing that red deer and elk are so close in dna that cwd is a huge concern.

My BIL breeds whitetail. He's had some fallow, but just started breeding them.

Fallow are much better than Whitetail IMO. CWD and the paperwork trail with the Red Deer is a pain. Ear Tagging and such. No on the Axis. There are so many free ranging ones plus they can be crazy and we had a buck pressured enough he tore himself and a good fence up. Not worth the hassle. Fallow so far are not affected by CWD and the regs. Raising them is more labor intensive than cattle but you can raise more on the same acreage than cattle.

The Bucks coming off the trailer are 3 yr olds and the Breeder buck is a 4 yr. old. Hardly keep any breeders past 5 as they really become aggressive.
