cross posted

Here's my situation, the pic on the left is our current pantry. My wife wants the look on the right.

I have built these doors to hang up

I made a rookie mistake and now have an issue, the door frame sticks out about 4" more than the pantry frame, so it's not flush and I can't install the hinges. See pics below

Any ideas on how to hang these doors? We don't really want to do tracks.

TIA

I'm not certain that I understand the question but I assume you mean the piece at the top of the frame into the jamb opening that likely his an old sliding door track? If so, just remove the 1x4 piece that's there, lightly sand the caulk lines and such and pair over the area. Hang doors as desired. I assume the doors are built to the frame size, not accounting for the piece in question, so the height of the doors is correct? The piece in question should just be toe nailed into place making it fairly easy to remove.

that was my initial thought, pop that off and the doors should fit. We shall see.

Why don't you want to use a track behind that 1x?

ETA: I thought you were planning to use rolling barn door hardware originally, not hinges. Assuming you built the doors to size with the 1x in place, just add another 1x to the face of the existing to build out the frame?

Use 8-10 cabinet hardware hinges on each leaf? Seriously have no idea if that would work/support the doors. Just first intial thought

+1

I'd put a track up there and be done with it all day long. It'll look better than what your wife wants anyway....but I'll leave that convo to you.

You're screwed!

Use existing doors for firewood and start over!

possible. track or hinges I think I still need to pop off that piece at the top.

If you are going to use rails the doors will not butt up as depicted unless you extend the rails way past the opening. Regardless the rails will have to extend a door width past the opening when side by side if you want full opening.

yes, I have ruled out rails. The tracks would go on the inside of the panty frame.

I understand. I was just making sure you thought thru that regardless where you put the rails....each door has to have a place to go when you open it.....plus a larger space if you want the picture look.

Second thought...top and bottom hinges that go on floor and head of door.....you'd still need to eighty-six the 1x at the top and probably rip the head trim piece on the underside back to allow door to sit flush with Jamb trim.

The pictures hinges are for swinging doors. But same concept.
