My male Beagle would fight 100% of male dogs he happened upon and win 97% of the time. Poor larger labs would be humiliated. Anyway, he NEVER once fought a female. He was fine with people.

So I've believed the myth.

Never heard that but it's absolutely not true in my experience. I've had males and females fight in many instances.

The official canine handshake is the butt snuff, not a butt lick. My three girls get a little testy, when the tongues come out. Different story when there in heat. One of my females turns into a rug munching dyke.

A female boxer ripped up my male mutt when he was in his own yard. Fortunately my neighbor got our toddler out of the way while I tried to kick the hell out of that aggressive boxer. Myth is completely false and your dog has aggression issues.

IMHO, female dogs tend to fight longer and more dirty. I will have to say males and females fight much less often than male vs male or female vs female fights.

I never wanted my dog (gone years ago) to fight. I only brag because bigger dogs would jump him and then get whipped all but one time (German Shepard). Even that GS got run home a few months later by my stubborn dog. I despise dog fighting.

I guess I'm obtuse. If a female attacks a male, he's supposed to not fight back like he's a civilized human? One dog lashes out, the other fights back. Can't say I've been around enough dog fights to see who started it and what they had hanging.

And I'm glad of that. Dog fights are disturbing.

If your dog fights dogs there is a problem. If you have had the dog since it was young then it is a you problem and not a dog problem. Be more responsible and dont get any more dogs.

The redbone/lab female I had, only got involved in two fights, both started by a male German Shepard and a male bloodhound. She won both pretty quickly. Man, I miss my little girl.

My 8 yr old and 5 yr old German shepherds have never been in a fight. Maybe I'm just lucky but keeping them on a leash when in public and in my own backyard has seemed to help.

Ok, some dog truths.


First, all dogs fight. You may not have experienced it yet.

Second, all dogs bite.

For the record, our female beagle, Lucy, is the alpha of our 4 dogs. One of the others is a year + old male Lacy and another is a 2 year+ Lab cross. On a sad note, she was diagnosed with cancer last week and will not be with us much longer. She was 24 # in her prime and had no fear.
