How long do you want to ignore this user?
Decided to pull the trigger on some choke tubes for my shotguns but wanted to see if anyone had some expert advice before I made the leap. I'm looking to get chokes for both my duck gun (super nova) and dove gun (beretta), a friend referenced patternmaster and after doing some research they seem like the go to, I've narrowed it down to the code black for my nova but didn't know if I wanted to pay the money ($90) for the other gun in patternmaster. Has anyone else had any luck with other brands, or should I just pay the extra 30 bucks and get the same? Help is appreciated in advance.

Not being sarcastic here, but why would an aftermarket choke be any different than OEM offerings?

I ordered a couple of choke tubes for my kids' 20 gauge last week from Trulock. They were $17.99 each plus shipping.

I have killed lots of bird with my out of the box shotgun, but after hunting with a friend who had a choke in his nova and seeing the shot dispersal in the water I'm convinced.

I got a couple of chokes from Briley for my Citori...uses the original choke system and I wanted extended chokes.

I've been very happy with them.

I ended up buying a couple of Briley Choke tubes for my Benelli 28ga after I couldn't find my factory chokes when we moved. I ended up locating my OEMs and for the hell of it decided to pattern them. The Brileys in both IC and Mod (only chokes I have for that gun) had a noticeably more even distribution in the pattern. I'd guess 98% of the time it wouldn't have made a difference if you made a good shot. Personally I would't say they are worth it unless you are a competitive shooter, however, if you're looking for something specific that didn't come with your gun, I'd say a premium choke is worth the extra $.

Thanks for the replies. I was truly ignorant on the subject of aftermarket chokes. I have always used the ones that came with my 870. I almost exclusively use modified.

Briley, look them up they have a variety to do whatever you need and the reputation to back their product up.

I have only bought one choke for my shotgun. I too feel like its a waste of money for the pattern gain, but I wanted extended chokes so I could remove or tigten without tool. I ended up with a Briley Light Modified for my SIlver Hunter. I use it almost exclusively for dove since I dont really hunt any other kind of foul with it. Not sure it helped or hurt my kill rate, but I do like the choke.

I have a friend that shoots sporting clays competitively. He is either master class or very close. I believe he only shoots Briley chokes.

I've hunted with him a few times. Deadly. Made me feel very average.

First shotgun I ever had that was not a family gun. I like it a lot. It took 3 years to be able to shoot it effectively though. The price was right (won as a door prize).
