Personally have never fished Anahuac before, but I am going up there to a buddies house in 2 weeks. Any suggestions? Have heard something's about "Jack's Pocket"?

Also, another friend of ours just took up fishing about a year and half ago and has been dying to catch a red so are there any nice flats that we can up early and look for tails?

I typically like to target reds around Bulkhead Cove and Triangle Pass from my kayak. I haven't fished there in over a year since moving so I'm not sure what the recent reports are looking like. Really any shoreline along the Trinity River delta (Reds Bayou to Anahuac Park) is going to have reds scattered along it. There used to be a good concentration of sea grass in the Bulkhead Cove area that held tons of fish, but I'm not sure what it's looking like now. The wet Spring/Summer may have helped. The mouth of Long Island Bayou can also be productive during tide change and of course you can always run out and fish the gas wells further out in the bay. The birds can be pretty active out there too so be on the lookout for them.

Whatever you do, make sure whoever is operating the boat knows the area well. Upper Trinity can go from 3ft to 3in really quick. It's also really tricky navigating some of the passes like Jacks and you have to know where the channel is at at all times because more often than not they are not marked.

HL&P spillway would be a good place to take a beginner, but it is a good haul from Anahuac.

I have heard they are really slamming the trout on Pepper's Reef, as there is a relatively new pipeline that was routed nearby. It is located SE of Smith Point.
