What's in the works for our soldiers in the future? Are they testing anything out currently? Flipping around and happened upon Die Hard. One of the European terrorists runs around with a bullpup as early as 1988.

I'm not talking about those crazy tech guns that are more of pipe dreams for full implementation. I mean more of standard issue, what's next?

The Glock 7 is a fake gun from Die Hard 2...

Also, the US has a law requiring guns to be detectable in metal detectors so it's a moot point anyway.

Since laws are so evenly applied to government officials.

Need to stick with the m4 and m16a4 for the foreseeable future, imo.

They are doing some minor upgrades to the M4 to make the M4A1. Heavier barrel and back to FA. There were some other changes proposed, but they have been shelved.

There's actually an exception in the undetectable gun law exempting the government, but I didn't feel like complicating things even more when he didn't get the obvious joke.

Until those crazy tech guns are a viable option, I doubt there is something next. There are lots of things that offer slight advantages over current issue when it comes to optics, ammo, furniture, etc.

But nothing is enough of a game changer for us to scrap the M-16 family or 5.56.

Maybe caseless ammo could change that, maybe a phased plasma rifle in the 40 watt range could....but I think we will see the M-16 style firearm in use for a while longer yet.
